In NSW there are crucial new laws coming into effect on 1 July 2024, which aim to combat this form of abuse, which we all need to understand. Coercive control is a pattern of behavior that involves manipulating, intimidating, or frightening someone in order to exert power over them. It’s a core element of domestic abuse that can lead to serious emotional and psychological harm. Recognising the signs is key to prevention and intervention. The NSW Government's new campaign illustrates the diverse experiences of coercive control. The NSW Government has created a great video explaining what coercive control looks like. You can watch it here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gsaGfJng There are 2 things I particularly like about this video: 1️⃣ It demonstrates the impact of this type of domestic violence and how intimidating it feels. 2️⃣ The victim is clearly a professional woman which breaks down our unconscious bias that domestic violence happens to less educated or lower socio-economic people. Regardless of where you live, this is an important video to watch.
