If you thought 5G was good, wait till 6G arrives. The next generation in global communications standards, 6G will be faster and more efficient than the standards that have come before it. And we’re delighted to be testing the potential of 6G in space thanks to a new project, led by TESAT and fully funded by European Space Agency - ESA’s Space for 5G/6G & Sustainable Connectivity programme. 🛰️ Our 11th satellite will be a 6G satellite precursor, which will deliver an in-orbit laboratory. This 16U CubeSat will: ➡️ Will operate at low earth orbit ➡️ Will be used to gain knowledge on end-to-end connectivity and convergence between terrestrial networks (TN) and non-terrestrial networks (NTN) ➡️ This will provide the information and knowledge to standardize the next-generation 6G communication networks and boost the technological potential of European industry We’re delighted to be working in partnership with several partners including TESAT, Fraunhofer IIS, University of Surrey, Airbus Defence and Space and Space Friedrichshafen, Deutsche Telekom Global Business and VTT TECHNICAL RESEARCH CENTRE OF FINLAND - some of whom we were able to spend time with at this week’s IAC2024! Success! In collaboration with Skyrora Ltd and CGI, we have completed a valuable ground test of InRange, our space-based launch vehicle telemetry relay system. InRange has been designed to enable continuous telemetry data transmission from launch to payload deployment, a game-changing capability in terms of reducing ground station communication reliance and increasing launch location flexibility. The successful ground test yielded crucial results: 🚀 Usable telemetry data was produced and InRange’s connectivity capabilities were demonstrated, leveraging Viasat’s L-band satellite network and Skyrora’s launch vehicle system. 🚀 Latency, interference and other crucial criteria were tested, fulfilling a key stage (CCN1) of the European Space Agency - ESA contract. Skyrora is now cleared for CCN2. Huge congratulations to all involved! We can’t wait for the results of CCN2, as Skyrora integrates InRange with its suborbital vehicle, Skylark L. Watch the video to learn more about the capabilities of InRange, and discover more about the successful test here: https://vsat.co/3AmykAz #spaceinnovation #SATCOM #Viasat #telemetry #InRange #RocketLaunch

EU’s Space Internet is Finally Taking Off! Looks like the EU is joining the space race with IRIS², our very own sovereign satellite constellation. It’s like Starlink, but with a European accent! Key points: • 2.4 billion euro budget (that’s a lot of croissants! ) • Multi-orbital design: LEO, MEO, GEO satellites (it’s alphabet soup in space!) • Quantum encryption (because regular encryption is so 2023) • SpaceRISE consortium awarded 12-year contract (longer than most marriages these days) IRIS² aims to provide secure comms, bridge connectivity gaps, and boost EU’s digital sovereignty. It’s like the EU’s giving itself a space-age security blanket! Initial services by 2024, full capacity by 2027. Let’s hope it’s not on “European time” https://lnkd.in/dAEw77PN
