Foundation investment funds may not be the best option for supporting an SRI strategy. Recommendations are: - Grant-making foundations should: (i) have clear and transparent policies for funds' selection, and (ii) improve investment strategies - Foundation investment funds should: (i) increase available information in sustainability topics, and (ii) develop funds related to the foundation's charitable purposes. 𝐅𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐬 - 𝒊𝒕'𝒔 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒇𝒂𝒖𝒍𝒕. If you struggle with this work sometimes, it's not your fault. The challenges of the philanthropic funding system are bigger than you, and bigger than your organisation. Whilst learning the art and science of #fundraising is part of the solution, there are bigger problems that can't (and shouldn't) be solved alone. Which is why we're proud to be supporting I.G. Advisors' #FixTheFlow Fellowship - a unique programme for both #fundraisers and #funders that provides coaching, training, systems-change projects, and exclusive access to a global online peer community. It’s an experience that provides education, transformation, and personal and professional growth. As well as teaching the core skills of fundraising and grantmaking, the Fellowship takes each cohort through a groundbreaking Collective Design process, teaching systems thinking and culminating in the design of #FixTheFlow Action Projects that aim to create lasting change in the funding system, and fix the flow of resources, for good. Monitor Institute by Deloitte's own Gabriel Kasper talks about the importance of futurism in the nonprofit and philanthropy world in the latest The Chronicle of Philanthropy article "Futurism Is Having a Moment in Post-Pandemic Foundation Strategy". While none of us can foresee exactly what is to come, part of the work we do is helping our clients understand and anticipate future risk so together we can help shape a more desirable future. Read about how we are embracing futurism and preparing organizations for a changing world—the article also includes a link to MIbD’s report, from the early pandemic, on anticipating changes in the nonprofit world after the emergence of COVID-19.

I loved Jo Swinson's quote at the first #PhileaForum almost two years ago which said that "You can only go as fast as the pace of trust." Since then, everything around us tells us that the pace needed has only increased, yet decreasing levels of trust make it ever more complicated to move forward with the much needed transitions. If anything, this seems to me like a call for action to seriously consider how trust can be restored. Against the backdrop of Belgian, European and US elections, and with Ghent being the European Capital of Youth 2024, the 2024 edition of the #PhileaForum will do exactly that. Throughout the 3 days of the Forum, we will examine the roots and branches of trust deficits, how they hamper our abilities to address complex, interconnected challenges, and what we can do about them - as people, as organisations, and as a sector. How can foundations and philanthropic organisations build and maintain trust in the eyes of the communities they serve? Is misinformation undermining our democracy? How can we rethink power to restore trust? What are the changes needed in philanthropic funding practices and approaches help restore and strengthen trust in its ability to respond to the most pressing needs? Lots of questions on #trust and #philanthropy to unpack with inspiring voices, including Rutger Bregman, Damir Šagolj, Sophie Pornschlegel, Christine Sow, Rhodri Davies, Rien van Gendt, Latanya Mapp, Ezekiel Takam, Marie Ringler, Ieva Morica, Àngel Font Vidal, Brieuc Van Damme, Carola Carazzone and so many others. Oh, and just in case: early bird registration fees up until 3rd May 👇. And yes, Ghent is still very accessible by train🚉 😉! Philea - Philanthropy Europe Association

Introduction by Croakey: Philanthropy has long been valuable to society; however, it is important to consider philanthropic giving and its power on international agendas with a critical eye, according to PhD candidate Giorgia Dalla Libera Marchiori. “Not all philanthropic giving is the same,” writes Dalla Libera Marchiori below, who is exploring the role of philanthropy in health research and its implications for the achievement of planetary health equity at the Planetary Health Equity Hothouse, Australian National University.
