🇧🇪🇳🇱⛴️ TERMA Group has signed a contract to supply new radars for the Belgian and Royal Netherlands Navy's anti-submarine warfare frigates. Terma will work closely with shipbuilder Damen Naval to integrate its SCANTER 6002 naval surveillance radars, which will give the ships multi-frequency scanning, X-band technologies, and small target detection algorithms. 🛳️🤩 BELGIUM NAVAL & ROBOTICS has started initial sea trials of the City-class mine countermeasure vessel in a joint procurement between Belgium and the Netherlands. Launched in 2019, the initiative will produce 12 advanced minehunter ships, half of which will be delivered to Brussels and the other half to Amsterdam. Work for the fleet’s design and construction is being facilitated by PIRIOU and Belgium Naval & Robotics’ parent company NAVAL GROUP, while the unmanned mission systems are led by Exail. Signed by OCCAR (Organisation for Joint Armament Co-operation), the deal orders the ships in their modern “EVO” configuration, which comprises the system’s standard general-purpose functions as well as advanced anti-submarine warfare capabilities. “The signing today of a contract to supply the Italian Navy with another two FREMM frigates in the ‘FREMM EVO’ configuration is the result of close collaboration between institutions, armed forces and private industry,” Orizzonte Sistemi Navali CEO Giovanni Sorrentino said. 🇪🇸⚓️👏 Exail has signed a contract with Navantia, S.A., S.M.E to supply its Gecdis-W Warship Electronic Chart Display and Information System for the Spanish Navy's S80 Plus-class submarines. Described as a “cooperational navigational asset,” the system will enhance the submarines' electronic navigational charting capabilities while on long-duration stealth missions. 🇩🇪⛴️ Thales has awarded HENSOLDT a contract to deliver additional naval radars for the German Navy’s upcoming F126 frigates. The 200-million-euro deal follows a 2022 contract that ordered non-rotating radars with four fixed antenna arrays for the fleet’s initial four vessels. NATO Maritime Command (MARCOM) concluded its two-week anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare exercise Dynamic Mongoose 24 in Reykjavik, Iceland, May 10. Units from Canada, Denmark, the Faroe Islands, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the United States converged for the highly complex maritime exercise that kicked off April 29 in Stavanger, Norway. This year, for the first time since its accession on March 7, Sweden participated in the exercise as a full NATO member nation, bringing the advanced technology and stealth of one of its Gotland-class submarines. Sweden last participated in Dynamic Mongoose in 2015 as a NATO partner nation. The Gotland-class submarines of the Swedish Navy are modern diesel-electric submarines, which were designed and built by the Saab in Sweden. They are the first submarines in the world to feature a Stirling engine air-independent propulsion (AIP) system, which extends their underwater endurance from a few days to weeks.
