🌈 Today, on #IDAHOBIT2024, we reflect on the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia, spotlighting the challenges faced by LGBTQIA+ persons in the Euro-Mediterranean region. Despite progress in some areas, entrenched cultural norms, legal obstacles, and societal stigma persist, fostering a hostile environment. In numerous countries, consensual same-sex relations remain criminalized, resulting in arbitrary arrests and detentions. Moreover, hate speech from political and religious figures exacerbates these issues, compounded by limited access to healthcare, employment and educational discrimination, and heightened rates of homelessness and mental health struggles, particularly among transgender individuals. Activists bravely confront increased attacks and shrinking civic spaces, amplifying the urgency of their work. ✨ Read the full story : https://shorturl.at/gWAJB

The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence is a powerful reminder of the ongoing struggle to end violence and discrimination in all its forms. As we stand together for justice, it is crucial to center the voices and experiences of intersex individuals, who are often excluded from these conversations. Intersex people face unique challenges, including stigma, non-consensual medical procedures, and systemic marginalization. These actions are forms of violence that stem from deeply entrenched ideas about how bodies and identities should exist. Recognizing and addressing these issues is not just about inclusion—it is about dismantling harmful systems and advocating for a world where everyone’s autonomy and dignity are respected. This campaign is an opportunity to build awareness, foster empathy, and ensure that intersex individuals are seen, valued, and protected. Together, we can create a future where no one is harmed or excluded because of who they are. #16DaysOfActivism #EndGBV #IntersexRights #HumanRights #BodilyAutonomy #InclusionMatters #StopDiscrimination #RespectDiversity #EndViolence #JusticeForAll #AmplifyIntersexVoices

#didyouknow that today is the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia #IDAHOBIT? And also, why is it today, on #May17th? It is only 24 years ago that the World Health Organisation removed homosexuality from the Classification of Diseases. While we should celebrate this milestone and certain achievements for #LGBTQIA+ acceptance, we should remember that: - In many countries around the world, there are still severe punishments, up to death sentence for homosexuality - Even in the more tolerant countries, only around 30% of the LGBTQIA+ employees are out to everyone at work - And many of the community members experience verbal to physical abuse due to their identity! This is why #allyship is so important, and I am proud to be part of #TeamBayer where #diversity, #equity and #inclusion are not only buzzwords, but we actively work on and support building a safe environment for all our colleagues, for their right to be and bring their whole self to work and beyond.

Today is #IDAHOBIT Day! “Every human being is born free and equal in dignity and rights.” This powerful message from the #UniversalDeclarationOfHumanRights is more relevant than ever. Every 17 May, we mark the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexphobia, and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT). On this day in 1990, the World Health Organization made a historic step when the World Health Assembly removed homosexuality from the International Classification of Diseases, declassifying it as a mental disorder. This year’s theme, “No one left behind: equality, freedom and justice for all,” echoes our commitment to a world where everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, enjoys the same rights and freedoms. #Equality #HumanRights #DEI #Inclusivity #Equalityatwork #NoOneLeftBehind

A staggering 3 out of 4 trans or gender-diverse individuals have experienced hate crimes. This statistic represents the urgent need for safety and inclusivity for all. Let's listen to and learn from each other and create a world where everyone can live authentically without fear. #TransVisibilityDay #InclusionMatters #StandTogether
On Trans Visibility Day, let's shed light on the biases and prejudice that transgender people may face. High rates of anxiety, depression, and suicide risk affect transgender and gender-diverse individuals due to barriers to support and discrimination. Shockingly, 75% of trans people report being victims of hate crimes. At Array, we stand against any form of discrimination and call for creating a more inclusive world for all. #TransVisibilityDay #SupportTransRights

At CMHA Hamilton, we understand that the violence faced by 2 Spirit, trans, and non-binary individuals is not a historical issue. It’s happening now. This community is still experiencing alarming rates of violence, discrimination, and systemic marginalization. We cannot treat this as something that happened "in the past"—it’s an ongoing crisis that demands our immediate attention and action. On Transgender Day of Remembrance, we not only mourn those we’ve lost but acknowledge the urgent need to address the violence that continues to affect these communities today. From transphobic hate crimes to barriers in healthcare, the struggle for rights is far from over. This is a day for deep reflection and for action. It’s time to recognize that transphobia isn’t just a relic of history. It’s a present-day issue that we all must confront. 2 Spirit, trans, and gender-diverse people experience unique mental health challenges, often shaped by feelings of exclusion and discrimination. These communities report higher rates of mental health struggles and unmet needs, highlighting the profound impact of stigma and a lack of culturally safe, affirming spaces. Yet, resilience is a core trait of the community. Despite facing these barriers, they continue to push forward, fight for their rights, and demand safety and equality. Let’s educate ourselves, amplify 2 Spirit, trans, and non-binary voices, and work together to build a world where all people—especially trans and gender-diverse individuals—can live free from fear and violence. #TransgenderDayOfRemembrance #TransRightsAreHumanRights #EndTransphobia #TransgenderAwareness

Today is IDAHOBIT – the International Day Against LGBTQIA+ Discrimination. It marks 34 years since the World Health Organisation stopped referring to homosexuality as a disease. Naming homosexuality as a disease told people that it was bad, that queer people had something wrong with them and needed to be fixed. Today, we know better. We know that sexual and gender identity is complex, and can be expressed in countless different ways. And while we have come a long way since the 90s, there are still plenty of moments in life when LGBTQIA+ people face stigma and discrimination. Particularly when it comes to their health. As the world’s first health promotion foundation, we work closely with our partners to create spaces for young queer people to connect with each other and develop that sense of belonging that we all need for good health. We advocate for better health and wellbeing outcomes for all Victorians – no matter who you love or how you identify. And we’ll never be silent about that.
