"In India, 25% of cardiovascular disease (CVD) patients are under the age of 40, many of whom have uncontrollable risk factors. In young patients, angioplasty has been performed, yet they sometimes return with serious stent failures. It is crucial to develop strategies to prevent such outcomes, including the use of drug-coated balloons infused into arteries." - Dr Sreekanth Shetty, Director & HOD - Department of Cardiology, Sakra World Hospital at the ET Now Indian Cardiac Care Innovation Summit 2024 presented by Meril, in association with the Indian Heart Association. “ Non compliance with blood thinners can lead to stent failures, so a nuanced strategy to perform stent free angioplasty ( with clot removal strategies combined with imaging and use of Drug coated balloons) wherever possible, would reduce long term dependence on blood thinners . However following the cardiologist’s advise to the “ T” after heart attacks is very important for good long term outcomes “
