On December 5, Esquel had the honor of welcoming Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (#WTO), to our Hong Kong office. She engaged with representatives from the #APECBusinessAdvisoryCouncil(ABAC) Hong Kong, China (HKC), along with distinguished female entrepreneurs. Marjorie, our chairman and ABAC HKC representative, initiated the proceedings with a gracious welcome address, setting the stage for an open and productive discussion among the guests. Dr. Okonjo-Iweala shared her profound insights, emphasizing that true success in gender equality means no longer needing to highlight being the "first woman" in various roles, as many women are already making significant strides across sectors. At Esquel, we are committed to fostering a people-centric culture that champions gender equality and empowers women in the workplace. By promoting inclusivity and supporting female leadership, we believe we can drive innovation and create a more sustainable future for all. #WTO #APEC #ABAC #GenderEquality #EconomicDevelopment

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY Achieving gender equality and women’s well-being in all aspects of life is more crucial than ever if we want to create prosperous economies and a healthy planet. However, we are facing a key challenge: the alarming $360 billion annual deficit in gender-equality measures by 2030. Since the TO GROUP was founded in 2012, we have accelerated progress and invested in women in leadership positions. Two good examples of this are Ninette Keller, General Manager and Head of Logistics Services & Solutions, and Kristin Schulze, Head of Import. As an independent, young and fast-growing company, gender equality is one of our core values. What unites us as the TO team is our passion to achieve great things - and how we work together as a team. www.to-group.com #to_group #genderequality #investinwomen #respect #values

What an inspiring event hosted by Nasdaq Vilnius - "Ring the Bell for Gender Equality"! ✨ Recent researches show that Lithuania ranks 17th in gender equality, a position unchanged from a decade ago. The persistent undervaluation of women in leadership underscores the imperative for a paradigm shift. This necessitates the integration of gender equality principles into educational frameworks, ensuring our daughters are empowered beyond traditional gender roles. Let's prioritize dedicating quality time to our children, offering them our most valuable asset, and, where feasible, embodying courageous leadership. Determination remains pivotal. On International Women's Day, let's gently urge our capable yet silent colleagues to take incremental steps towards leadership roles. Together, let's forge a path towards a more inclusive and equitable future. #GenderEquality #WomenLeadership #internationalwomensday2024

UN Women Asia-Pacific 2023 WEPs Forum: Accelerating Gender Equality in Business UN Women organized the first-ever Asia-Pacific 2023 Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) Forum in Manila on 7–8 November. Supported by the Government of Australia, the forum gathered 170+ participants from ASEAN, Asia-Pacific, and beyond, including business leaders, corporates, MSMEs, and governmental agencies. One of key discussions highlighted critical gaps in gender-responsive procurement and supplier diversity. Only 38% of surveyed companies have taken steps to advance procurement from women-owned businesses. Barriers persist, such as data scarcity on business ownership and complex procurement requirements, hindering micro-entrepreneurs and women-owned businesses. Women own one-third of global businesses but receive less than 1% of corporate and government procurement spend. Gender-responsive procurement is a pivotal opportunity for the private sector to drive meaningful change and accelerate gender equality. Enhanced awareness, capacity-building, and technical support are essential for corporations to take decisive action for gender equality. While gender equality remains a headline Sustainable Development Goal, progress across key metrics is far from encouraging. Statistics show that about 80 percent of unpaid care work is currently undertaken by women. They need to be supported with policies that provide flexibility and help them better balance work and care responsibilities, says Sweef Capital Director @Rowena Reyes. Progress will take a combination of broad-based strategies, gender-specific policies and training to raise awareness of the benefits of supporting women, says @Jane Sloane, Senior Director for Women’s Empowerment and Gender Equality at The Asia Foundation. Change doesn’t happen overnight. A growing evidence base shows the positive financial, social and environmental benefits that flow from empowering women. While some progress has been made, addressing gender barriers requires governments and businesses to share insights and work together to ensure their policies are aligned and effective, argues Sweef Capital Director Rowena Reyes. Jane S., Senior Director for Women’s Empowerment and Gender Equality at The Asia Foundation, says even in the Asia-Pacific, a general laggard on key gender metrics, promising policies and initiatives are emerging that reflect local contexts as well as bigger themes around economic empowerment and women’s security and wellbeing.
