NRL rolls into Vegas 🇺🇸. Two worlds colliding. Bravo Vlandys and Co 👏🏼 5 years, it’s significant. Fox 1 USA, it’s significant. The chance to dramatically increase broadcast, wagering, fans……and not just in the US. Ultimately? Revenue. Revenue to invest into the game to make it a better experience for everyone. Is Vegas the right venue? I’m split. It’s fast becoimg THE ‘Sports Mecca’, a risk of being drowned out? Or, as Sinatra said of another famous US City, “if I can, make it theeeeere…” With sports content, on multiple platforms, instantly accessible globally, every corner of the planet is now a potential audience. It’s a matter of what GRABS one’s attention, then more importantly, keeps it. The question is….how many Americans will be come emotionally affected enough, to become long term fans? Then, will that legacy be handed down to their offspring? Or/and, will the NRL invest in NRLUSA venture??? Better fit for broadcasters timezone wise. Will NRLUSA one day become the premier Rugby League competition??? NRL is certainly ‘asking the question’! Love it. National Rugby League Peter V'landys Andrew Abdo

The International Cricket Council Men’s T20 World Cup is the 2nd most popular global sporting event, behind only the FIFA World Cup. And it is taking place, right now, across the U.S. (and West Indies). But the ICC’s exclusive U.S. broadcast rights deal with the cricket-centric streaming service Willow TV has the biennial tournament out of most general market American sports fans’ sight and mind. #Television #streaming #sports #cricket #T20WorldCup cc: Brett Jones Stuart Goldfarb https://lnkd.in/dY-zeFXq

New Zealand’s premier women’s Rugby Union competition, Super Rugby Aupiki, will have their final broadcast live on TikTok. It’s the first time any sports final, male or female, will be broadcast on TikTok. Part of a campaign to grow interest in Womens Sport, broadcaster Sky Sports, and telco partner, 2degrees will shoot the game in vertical format and stream it live and free on their TikTok channel. Over 80% of Kiwis use social media, and TikTok, which generally attracts younger users opens a door to grow fanbases for women’s sport. Not only of the aspect ratio of this stream going to be novel but broadcasting on a social media platform provides the option for viewers to engage in real time with other fans. Commenting and voting are both interactive elements of TikTok streams and we look forward to seeing how the sport and its partners leverage these tools to better connect with new and existing fans on game day. Gemba Insights research for Foxtel in 2022 highlighted the need for ALL stakeholders to be involved in the growth of women’s sport - broadcasters included – so it’s great to see new and traditional media owners collaborating to this end. Will Warner Bros. Discovery’s $650M French Open Deal Serve Up a Win for U.S. Tennis Fans? 🎾 Warner Bros. Discovery's new 10-year, $650M deal to acquire the U.S. rights to the French Open, starting in 2025, is a bold move in the sports media landscape. This strategic expansion not only enhances WBD's sports content offering but also positions it to compete fiercely in the market. 📺 This deal is significant for several reasons: 1️⃣ Strategic Expansion: Acquiring the U.S. rights to the French Open broadens WBD's sports portfolio especially as it negotiates to retain NBA broadcasting rights. 2️⃣ Competitive Positioning: The significant investment highlights WBD's commitment to securing top-tier sports content, challenging previous holders like NBC and Tennis Channel. 3️⃣ Integrated Viewing Experience: With TNT Sports already holding European rights, WBD can provide a seamless viewing experience for tennis fans globally. This move showcases WBD's ambition and highlights the increasing value of live sports in the streaming era. Integrating the French Open into WBD’s portfolio could drive significant engagement and viewer loyalty. What are your thoughts on WBD's investment in sports broadcasting? Will it pay off? 🤔💰🌍 #WarnerBrosDiscovery #FrenchOpen #SportsBroadcasting #Tennis #MediaIndustry #StreamingServices #LiveSports

The Sports Industry FPL table and title fight mirrors The Premier League's. A new team has taken over from the long-time leader and five teams are within 17 points of one another. Squeaky bum time! 👇 💥 Amar Singh has been smashing it in the league this season leading for almost all of it. But a challenging few weeks of scoring has opened up the title race. 🔝 Atri Baksi is now top of the shop and there to be shot at by the in-form Neil Liddle, Dileep V and Oliver McConnell. 📏 But don't rule out any of Spencer Nolan, Philip Dorward, Kieran Hepworth, Aniruddha Warang, or George Crewe who have been slowly reining in the leading pack. 🏆 Who's your money on to lift the trophy? ---------------------- 💥 My name is Malph. 🆘 Helping brands to use sponsorship to deliver marketing objectives. 🤝 Supporting rights holders to build valuable partnerships. Netflix continue to surprise the sporting world with their moves around live sports and entertainment, and this move is no exception. From a scale of access and distribution perspective this is shaping to be their biggest live event distributed on the platform. Netflix continue to flirt around the edges of live sports rights and making things that aren't laboured with the traditional rights models of sports. It also doesn't appear to be a PPV fight, meaning it's purely going to be a play for eyeballs and of course subs. How successful will this approach be? They continue to make bets amping up in scale, so they have to be liking what they're seeing so far, that's for sure. https://lnkd.in/eXj8Krx7

For those who firmly believe Sports drives adoption of streaming, you should consider whether Sports as a very revenue and cost driven area of TV, actually is not really what drives popular TV viewing, and particularly streaming adoption. Specially when the cost / benefit analysis makes it a 'No'...
