🌱 Coordination SUD and the PCSD OECD pursue their exchanges to work towards sustainable development goals   💪 In early March, Coordination SUD and the OECD's PCSD Unit met to plan new joint activities around the #2030Agenda. Latest cooperation between our 2 organizations was on drafting of France's voluntary national review, presented to the UN in July 2023 ! 👇   🗳️In the meantime, Coordination SUD has continued influencing policy makers towards 2030 Agenda’s achievement at EU level. 2-3 May 2024, Paris The 2024 Meeting of the OECD Council at Ministerial Level, chaired by Japan with Mexico and the Netherlands as Vice-Chairs, will take place on 2-3 May 2024. The theme of this year’s MCM is “Co-Creating the Flow of Change: Leading Global Discussions with Objective and Reliable Approaches towards Sustainable and Inclusive Growth.” Governments are facing complex and interrelated issues. Effective co-operation on the strong foundation of evidence-based best practice and multilateral dialogue is essential, and the 2024 OECD Ministerial Council Meeting is an opportunity to engage in high-level discussions among Members and non-Members on the issues critical to today’s international community. The theme for the 2024 MCM comprises three overarching pillars: A Diverse, Inclusive, and Likeminded OECD: Strengthening the Outreach of our Work. An Economic Order based on the Shared Values: Firmly Maintaining Free and Fair Trade and Enhancing Economic Resilience. Co-creating a Better Future: Addressing Emerging Challenges at Global but Regional Scale. The 2024 MCM will further leverage the strengths of the OECD to support the world New leaders to develop sound and well-coordinated strategy and responses to each of the structural shifts in front of us, grounded in our shared values. 📣 So many months of work and I can finally share the big news! 📯🌈 On 18 June at the Royal Library in Brussels, European Commissioner Paolo Gentiloni and the Belgian Federal Minister for Sustainable Development Khattabi Zakia will host a high-level conference on the Sustainable Development Goals in the EU. There will be a 👑 very special guest 👑 giving an opening address, whose name you can discover here: https://sdg.eventsite.be/ And don't forget to register while you're at it ❗ The conference is a closing act of the current European Commission college on the topic of the SDGs and sustainable development, a file I've been enthusiastically working on since the beginning of the mandate almost five years ago. Its aim is to review the progress made toward the SDGs during this timeframe as well as the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the EU, and give impetus on the topic for the next EU legislature - just in time after the European elections! After the opening lecture by the thought-provoking Sandrine Dixson-Declève, the event will flow from the internal EU considerations outward to the international aspects, closing off on an ever-important issue of financing. 💰 The three panels headlined by visible academics in the field will give the floor to high-level actors spanning members of the European Parliament, multilateral institutions and development banks, Directors-General of the European Commission and more. "Belgium's Multilateral Policymaking put to the Test of the 21st Century" This is the topic explored in the latest Egmont Institute policy brief, authored by yours truly. Successive State reforms have complexified the domestic cohabitation between federal and federated entities, sometimes leading Belgium to abstain at the international level. And while coordination mechanisms attempt to address decentralization, they lack resources to counteract the deepening political fragmentation. As a result, the delicate equilibrium of Belgium’s governance in multilateral policymaking is at risk. Revamping the coordination mission of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is critical, to ensure the smooth harmonization of internal interests, and to prevent Belgium’s international influence from being impaired—a situation the Kingdom cannot afford in today’s uncertain context.
