Implementing fear in the minds of customers is powerful. Take Black Friday as an example. People rush to get those good DEALS, and if they don't someone else will do it for them. Showing them scenarios of how bad it can get if they don't act now triggers fear inside of their mind. This is known also as FOMO (Fear of missing out).

A conversation with my cat about value: Cat: "Why do you keep talking about Black Friday?" Me: "We're offering the Network at half off." Cat: "Why not just make it that price always?" Me: "Because normally we'd need to charge more to sustain the system." Cat: "So you're saying people should decide quickly." Me: "I mean..." Cat: *knocks over water glass* She's right. Again. This price is genuinely special. But no pressure tactics here - just honest value. You can get it here: https://lnkd.in/eyBGdu6a

How many Black Friday emails have you received so far? Having witnessed a bargain hunter get injured in the pursuit of a reduced North Face jacket, LWC Headmaster, Adam Williams has a few thoughts on this yearly shopping spectacle. "Black Friday is less about what we truly need and more about the thrill of the hunt. It’s the suggestion that if we just buy more, own more, or spend more, we’ll finally feel fulfilled. Spoiler alert: You won’t. That air fryer might improve your hash browns, but it’s not going to fill your cup of optimism and bring about the associated long life. Long-term joy isn’t hiding in that heavily discounted sofa and your godson doesn’t need another remote-controlled car; he needs your time and attention, which, as it happens, are free." You can read more (as you add to your shopping cart...or not) in his latest Headmaster's Blog here: https://lnkd.in/e4kAUMnP

2 more sleeps until the barrage of Black Friday emails start! Love it or hate it, it's a promotion that's here to stay, so why not embrace it. Use it as a time to reward your loyal customers ❤️ Use it as a time to clear underperforming lines 👚 Use it as a time to increase footfall and bring new customers to your brand 🤗 Whatever you do don't ignore it, it's here to stay so make the most of it. It's much better to be a retailer who embraces key sale events than one who runs offer after offer, as that erodes far more than just your bottom line. It errodes customer confidence and without that you don't have a business.

It's Black Friday... So, which 3 persuasion principles seduced my credit card today? 1. Scarcity: We're twice as motivated by the fear of losing out as by the prospect of gaining something. I can't tell you what I bought (my daughter could be reading this), but I can tell you that her Christmas stocking pile looks a little bigger after I succumbed to the "Only 3 left!" message I saw on my phone this morning! 2. Social proof: We all use others' behaviour as a shortcut for decision-making. It's hard-wired into us. So when my sister-in-law tells me about all the deals she bagged, there must be something worth having. 3. Commitment and consistency: I told my husband this morning, "Don't worry, I'll get a deal in the Black Friday sales." Now I've made that commitment, I feel that internal pressure to deliver... PS: Which Black Friday persuasion tactic got you today? Share below - I'm collecting stories! 😉

Yes Sanja, we all need to take stock, stop and reflect. It's so easy to get caught up in the cycle of consumption without pausing to consider the bigger picture: do we really need this, and what impact does it have? Thanks for sharing this; I'll definitely look up the 'Buy Now' documentary. A small step today can lead to meaningful change over time!"😎

On my way back home, all I could hear on the radio was about Black Friday! It is all about buy buy buy... No, no, I am not surprised, it is expected right? But here it is, I have a suggestion for you. Before Black Friday comes, take time to watch the documentary 'Buy Now' on Netflix. It is a documentary that will leave you with a need to take a moment and think about the way of consuming things. I am not saying we shouldn't buy things, we all have needs in our lives. But it is worth before buying something to take a moment to ask ourselves is that a thing we need, how long can we use it (quality over quantity), how it affects our environment... We cannot be perfect, but each of us can make small steps to do better things for our environment. Just saying....

Avoid these Black Friday messaging mistakes: ❌ Don’t force your consumer to think with unclear offers, confusing tiered discounts with multiple bundles ❌ Less than 25% isn’t going to cut it ❌ An unclear path to purchase - it needs to be seamless, with the savings reinforced throughout. Don’t let the consumer second-guess if they are getting a good deal or waste their time!

RIP to the freedom we lost because of Black Friday deals. Let's not let that happen again. When we see a sale or discount of high value... We tend to think we need it. → This gadget will make us feel better. → This limited-time offer will give us purpose. → This purchase will help us belong. Why? Because marketers know our weaknesses better than we do. They've turned our stress and loneliness into their gain. We fall for it, hook, line, and sinker. To break this cycle, try the following: Acknowledge Your Worth ↳ Recognize that real belonging isn’t bought; it’s built. Visualize True Freedom ↳ Picture yourself free from the chains of retail therapy. Challenge Assumptions ↳ Stop assuming that buying more will make you more. Reflect On Real Joy ↳ Remind yourself of moments that can't be shrink-wrapped. Focus On Connection ↳ Channel your energy into building relationships and experiences. And if you skip a deal? Oh well, onto real freedom, you still have value. ::: Want bold, thought-provoking insights on leadership, AI, and the future of work?
