I see some people pointing out that the other worker is not reciprocating the favors, and I understand their perspective. However, being a good person or a good colleague isn’t about ‘quid pro quo.’ If you’re doing things just because you expect a favor in return, you’re doing it for the wrong reason.

To put this into further perspective: This research is valid enough that Gallup actively goes out of their way to provide these opportunities for their employees/co-workers. It has been over 6 years since I stopped working with them, and my best friend is still someone I met while working there as a Phone Interviewer. The best managers I ever had the pleasure of working with were also when I worked at Gallup. They had such an incredible impact on me, and I'll never forget them.

Love it. I can totally relate. I mean, I don't expect anything from any of my colleagues, because I know my responsibilities.. But I am so thankful I have colleagues that are like this without expecting anything from me either.. Aand I am also like this to them. They can do and decline me favors, and surprisingly, I'd never feel bad about that, becaauuse I am and they are aware of our own accountabilities. It's freedom.

This is awesome but I'd like to see it as a mutually-beneficial relationship instead of just 1 helping the other.

I believe it. Yes, I have made good friends from work. And we keep in touch even though we have moved on / are in different places. I agree. Having friend/s at work makes life & the work day easier. Especially if the job / environment is tough. I still make friends with hybrid/remote work. 🙂 I have also been on the other side where I have not had any work friends. It was tougher and I disliked the job more. I thought about leaving those jobs more often. Feeling alone is not a good feeling. Having those experiences makes me appreciate having friends at work...silver lining.

This is how friendship/coworkers should act with one another. You raise each other up and when someone is in need you cover for them. My last job of 8 years was like this and they are the most wonderful people I have ever met ❤️
