You are who you hire. Hiring the right SEO can make or break your agency. After years of helping SEO agencies grow their teams, we’ve pinpointed key mistakes to avoid and how to get it right. 1. Rushing the hiring process. --> Take your time to properly vet candidates. Implement a structured interview process with 2-3 interviews and a skills test. This approach ensures you hire for both skills and company fit, reducing the risk of a bad hire. 2. Not defining clear job roles. --> Clearly outline the role and responsibilities. Are you seeking a technical SEO expert or someone focused on content and outreach? Specific job descriptions attract the right candidates. 3. Ignoring soft skills. --> In addition to testing for technical knowledge, assess the candidate’s ability to communicate complex SEO concepts to non-technical stakeholders. SEO professionals often need to collaborate with other departments, making soft skills crucial. 4. Undervaluing senior-level SEO talent. --> Invest in senior-level talent for leadership and strategy roles. Their expertise in long-term strategy, data analysis, and SEO trends can enhance client retention, streamline processes, and increase revenue. 5. Failure to offer competitive salaries and growth opportunities. --> Research salary benchmarks and ensure your offer reflects the market standards. Additionally, provide growth opportunities like skill development, leadership training, and clear career progression paths. Curious how you can refine your hiring process? Ask us!
