Kempower has now opened its order books for its Megawatt Charging System based charging hardware for battery electric trucks. Initially intended was the start of delivery already in Q1 2024. Despite the delay Kempower still wants to deliver soon. Surprising is the fact that the Finns obviously starting production although the underlying Megawatt Charging Standard has not yet been fully developed - which appears to be quite bold. #evcharging #charginginfrastructure #emobility

Vehicle to #electricity #grid and other solutions like V2L, V2H seem to be more and more interesting to buffer #wind and #solar. Every #car means one additional #battery in the system. This morning, the NOS published an article about a policy which’ rumor has been circling the Dutch EV industry. Grid operator Stedin has announced that EV charging will be forcibly stopped between 16:00 and 21:00. https://lnkd.in/ewEpU4cW I usually refrain from opinionated posts, and I sympathize with the pressure that on the shoulders of our grid operators to facilitate the electrification of our lives. (Case and point yesterday’s FD headline: https://lnkd.in/eKewW9tQ)  However: as an EV driver, inhabitant of Stedin territory and a professional in public EV (smart) charging industry, one word comes to mind: convenient. · Convenient that Stedin can unilaterally impose restrictions on inhabitants. · Convenient that inhabitants don’t have a choice of grid operator. · Convenient that Stedin expects the inhabitant to hand over its flexibility to pick up the bill. As an EV driver, you need to be able to charge in time of urgency. At the office, we call it the ‘labor scenario’. Plugging in your car and expecting charging for 5 hours, only to find it with an empty battery as you need to rush to the hospital. There must be way for an EV driver to override interruptions and set a priority. Since 2020, our team at TotalEnergies is taking a different approach. Based on grid congestion (link to article in comment) and variable market prices (link to video in comment), charging speeds are reduced at times of high demand and move load to the night hours. Not on a pilot project, as the article states, but in the largest public EV smart charging operation in the world, spanning thousands of charge points. Virtually the same result, but with a critical difference: there is a choice. Through smart charging operations, users are allowed to benefit from providing their flexibility. There is an incentive. Between 16:00 and 21:00 is the time of peak demand. High demand means high cost. Avoiding peak times avoids cost and, you guessed it, grid congestion. If you want, you can be a part of it and benefit. If not, you opt out. I genuinely believe that solving the grid congestion issue will require a monetary incentive to the end user. Whether through GOPACS, variable grid tariffs or other mechanisms. Forcing to stop charging completely is throwing out the baby with the bathwater and risking losing the support of a 400GWh to be flexible asset. We need to compromise and work together to make the energy transition into a reality. This shouldn’t be done by top-down restrictions but by allowing and investing in incentivizing smart alternatives. #smartcharging #EV #gridcongestion

For an energy supplier giant like eon, it will apparently be exciting to play a role there.  Although I think that Vehicle To Home and Vehicle To Building will become much more attractive, with other market participants than e.g. eon, I think it's good that interest has been sparked and that Vehicle 2 Grid may be added. With more and more affordable electric vehicles and a BiDi fleet of several hundred thousand vehicles now in existence, the race for V2G will be won by those who offer interoperable solutions and provide customers with an attractive package.  The proprietary BiDi solutions offered for example by Renault, does not really help to convey security in the market, and the fear of damaging the battery has not yet been completely dispelled. Nevertheless, in recent weeks the energy industry and the automotive industry have reached an agreement on future rules for electric vehicles interacting on the energy grid. V1G and V2G now have a fixed framework. E-car owners should be able to sell battery power in the future Load excess cheap electricity into your electric car, send it back to the power grid when necessary and earn money with it - which sounds quite simple, but it is not yet: There are still no binding technical and legal requirements for the use of so-called vehicle-to-grid technologies. However, that is now changing. Nissan plans to introduce excellent and affordable V2G technology in 2026 According to media reports, Nissan Motor Corporation plans to offer onboard bidirectional charging electric vehicles in 2026. The first market will be the UK and then will expand to other European countries. The extensive review of 50 commercial EV models identifies the dominance of NMC and LFP batteries and changes in composition, such as the reduction of cobalt in NMC batteries. Specifically, the average capacity for NMC type batteries is 68.9 kWh, 62.4 kWh for LFP, and 104.6 kWh for NCA batteries. Simultaneously, we delve into degradation patterns of Renault Zoe models through non-invasive CANBUS measurements. This approach reveals the influence of usage patterns and calendar aging on NMC battery health. Our findings show significant variability in degradation among 2018 R90 models, indicating the critical role of driving behaviors in battery longevity. The study also notes a potential degradation stabilization in the older 2013 Q210 model.
