AI (and the great Business Reinvention) We are witnessing the dawn of a new business era. AI is not merely a wave of change; it is the main movement redefining the future's success for most industries. Its impact rivals internet's or personal pc arrival to market, reshaping the very fabric of the corporate world. Predictions from PwC suggest that AI could contribute up to 15.7% to the global GDP by 2030, a testament to the emergent power of this technology. Yet, with great power comes great responsibility (a moviewise mantra), and the labor market stands at the epicenter of a massive transformation. According to WEF, AI is expected to displace 85 million jobs by 2025. However, in a hopeful twist, it is also projected to create 97 million new roles, demanding new human skills and capabilities. These figures could signify not a decrease but a metamorphosis in the nature of work. Ergo, towards businesses short term future, the most valuable capital evolves from enduring long work hours to devising ingenious solutions and adapting swiftly to advanced technology's complexities. Achieving this ideal state is complex, and the human cost during the transition, especially when metrics indicate that a third of today’s human tasks will be replaced by 2030, cannot be overlooked. In this context of rapid change, employers and employees must prepare for a radical reconfiguration, making Education and professional training enter an era where AI fluency is not just an asset but a necessity. Returning to Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, I've witnessed the emphasis on understanding AI as a system that, with its predictive capability (way beyond from the LLM's rush), are evolving the entire business chain. The adoption of AI in business is accelerating, yet many are not fully prepared for the challenge. Gartner highlights that 85% of AI projects may fail due to a lack of understanding and appropriate application of the technology. This scenario underscores a call to action for businesses to develop a culture that not only adopts AI but also fosters innovation and continuous learning. As the race for AI adoption becomes more evident, Deloitte reveals that 63% of companies recognize AI as a transformative force, with global spending on AI systems projected by IDC to reach $97.9 billion in 2023, indicating we are at the apex of an AI-dominated era. In the midst of a 'parallel reality', where concerns about data privacy and integrity loom large, the corporate world must navigate the dual challenge of embracing AI's potential while ensuring ethical, unbiased use. The distinction between businesses that will lead the next revolution and those that will fall behind is becoming increasingly clear. The question is not if AI will change the business landscape but who will spearhead this change and who will be left behind.
