Emission offsetting? Yes, but only as a complement to emission avoidance – and only if you do it right! ⚠️ Many critics see offsetting as a type of greenwashing rather than an effective way to cut emissions. And indeed, offsetting, when used as the main method to reduce emissions, presents problems, such as continued dependence on fossil fuels and limited availability of high-quality offsetting projects. However, offsetting still has the potential to be a helpful measure in the fight against global warming. What is essential is that offsetting should not be seen as a substitute for emission avoidance. Plus, remember that not all carbon offsets are alike. If you want to use carbon offsets to reduce your carbon footprint, consider our five tips to make an actual impact ⬇️ #offsetting #CO2 #emissions

Our approach to reducing emissions is to avoid making them in the first place. By focusing on how to limit our carbon-emitting manufacturing activities, we have avoided 4,280 tonnes of CO2e* emissions since 2018 -- 48% of the way towards our 2030 goal of 8,940 tonnes CO2e. We have aligned our goal with science-based targets for Scope 1 and 2 emissions in support of the Paris Agreement that aims to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels by 2030. Learn more about our journey as we continue to look for more ways to contribute to a lower-carbon economy. ✨ Tackling climate change to secure our future 🌎 On this #WorldEnvironmentDay, we recognize the global need to slash greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by nearly half by 2030 to hold global warming below 2 °C and avoid its most dangerous impacts. As we examine our own operations around the world, we have been mapping out the ways we can continually lighten our environmental footprint to move closer to net-zero emissions. As of 2023, we have reduced our Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 21% below 2021 baseline levels. This includes reducing ~25,000 metric tons of CO₂e in 2023 through 170 projects in 25 countries through our dedicated sustainability capital expenditure program and site-led projects for energy efficiency. Companies can always do better. Climate emissions are a monumental challenge where we all have to pitch in. This latest "stock-taking" of the progress for IFF globally is (if nothing else) a testament to the ambition to #DoMoreGood

We can't ignore the impact of landfill gas, especially from closed sites, on our climate. Methane is a powerful greenhouse gas, and accurate measurement is key to managing these emissions. Let’s push for better policies and stronger action on this overlooked issue.
🌍 How can we be serious about GHG reduction and global warming if we don't measure landfill gas emissions properly? In the fight against climate change, every ton of greenhouse gas (GHG) matters. Yet, one significant source of emissions often goes under the radar: landfill gas. Closed landfills emit landfill gas too! Methane, a potent GHG, continues to seep from these sites long after they've stopped receiving waste. The issue is, these emissions are often underestimated or even ignored in our GHG inventories. If we're truly committed to mitigating global warming, we need to address this oversight. Accurate measurement and reporting of landfill gas emissions, including from closed sites, are essential. This data is critical for developing effective mitigation strategies and ensuring we meet our climate targets. It's time we bring more attention to this hidden source of emissions and start treating landfill gas as the serious climate issue it is. Let's push for more rigorous measurement, better management, and stronger policies around landfill gas. After all, what gets measured gets managed—and it's high time we manage landfill emissions with the seriousness they deserve. 🌱 #ClimateAction #Sustainability #GHGReduction #LandfillGas #EnvironmentalImpact #Methane #GlobalWarming

🎯 Our target: Net-zero GHG emissions across our value chain by 2050. We focus on the circularity of our own products. In 2022, TOMRA Group committed to becoming a net-zero company by 2050 and setting science-based targets (SBT) to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across our entire value chain – in line with the global target of the Paris Agreement to stay below 1.5 degrees global warming. How will we achieve this? By working to embed circular and eco-design principles in our product development processes and decision-making, we continuously improve the sustainability performance of our operations. On June 5, World Environment Day, the FCL Components Group has issued a “Declaration of Carbon Neutrality,” setting a goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 as a way to address the global warming problem. The Group will continuously implement measures such as improving energy efficiency, enhancing production processes, and adopting green energy sources to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from our factories and offices. This effort aligns with our philosophy of conducting the best corporate activities while enhancing our environmental coexistence. The Group's management team and employees are committed to realizing a carbon-neutral society through active collaboration with customers, business partners, government, and local authorities. Our climate target is now approved by the Science Based Targets initiative! We aim to reduce absolute greenhouse gas emissions from our own operations and value chain by 42% by 2030 compared to 2022. Stockmann is part of Lindex Group and reducing climate emissions is our common target in the whole Group. The SBTi’s validation confirms that Lindex Group’s climate strategy and target are in line with the Paris Agreement to limit global warming, ensuring they are scientifically robust. “SBTi’s validation encourages us to continue accelerating climate actions while growing our business profitably and sustainably. The validation is an important milestone in our journey to reduce climate impacts and our systematic approach has already resulted in significant emission reductions. In 2023, we reduced Lindex Group’s total greenhouse gas emissions by 11% compared to 2022,” says CEO Susanne Ehnbåge. Read more: https://lnkd.in/dxmHBWrw

ESG - Global warming To reduce the impacts of global warming, we must prioritize renewable energy sources like solar, wind, and hydroelectric power, transitioning away from fossil fuels. Implementing energy-efficient technologies in transportation, buildings, and industries can significantly cut emissions. Protecting and restoring forests and other natural carbon sinks helps absorb CO2 from the atmosphere. Sustainable agriculture practices, such as regenerative farming and reducing food waste, are crucial. Additionally, promoting awareness and advocating for policies that prioritize sustainability, carbon pricing, and international cooperation are essential steps. By collectively taking these actions, we can mitigate the bites of global warming and work towards a more sustainable future. #sustainability #esg #independentdirector #listedcompanies #esginvesting

Today we are committing to newly validated Science Based Targets initiative (#SBTi) targets as part of our Common Grounds sustainability programme. Science-based targets give companies a clearly-defined path to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in line with limiting global warming to 1.5°C. SBTi’s FLAG Guidance provides the world’s first framework for companies in land-intensive sectors to set science-based targets that include land-based emission reductions and removals. We believe that coffee, globally, can be grown in a Net Zero way by 2050 if we work together – across the industry and with farmers. We have made considerable progress in reducing our scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions in 2023, and are proud to announce these new targets to continue to drive reductions for a planet-positive future. #JDEPeetsPlanet #JDEPeetsCommonGrounds
