4 ways to Improve Risk management in a VUCA Environment Risk management is dealt with subjectively across companies. Some companies over-emphasize risk justifying with over-documentation, and some undermine justifying it as a business case, while actual risk remains. How can we navigate the risks within a VUCA environment? There are four aspects to implement a effective risk management; 1. Strategic hiring and skilling of people: It involves hiring skilled people who can undertake complex and evolving roles. It requires people who can upskill themselves based on the need for uncertain changes in future. For an employee to be well-equipped to handle potential risks, it needs consistent training programs, mentoring, and ongoing professional development. 2. Technological improvement in activities: Embracing technological advancements to manage and mitigate risks, such as implementing automation, data analytics, and digital platforms to enhance decision-making and risk assessment processes. 3. Reducing redundant tasks: Identifying and eliminating unnecessary or repetitive tasks to streamline operations and reduce the potential for errors, thus improving overall risk management. 4) Culture of uniformity: For a Company to act as ONE, it needs all people & processes to think & act alike to a larger vision. #RiskManagement #EmployeeDevelopment #TechnologyIntegration #Efficiency #ResourceManagement #transformation #redundanttasks

Are you designing your risk management system, or Is your organisational structure designing it for you? Conway’s Law states that the structure of a system is determined by the communication patterns of the people who design it. In other words, we’re destined to build things that look like the teams that built them. The way in which people communicate and collaborate when designing a system will have a direct impact on the structure of the system itself. Conway’s Law can be recognised in organisational risk management practices. Risk management can be found to be relegated to a secondary role. It can result in additional bureaucracy, and delays in decision-making. It can create a culture where risk is seen as the responsibility of a select few rather than a shared responsibility across the organisation. It can be seen as an afterthought and a separate step in the process, Rather than an integral part of everyday operations and decision-making. Risk management teams and individuals are often isolated. When teams are fragmented or siloed, the resulting processes and system reflect those communication patterns. It leads to the development of a siloed approach. Ensuring collaboration and communication among teams leads to more cohesive and integrated approach. Risk management practices must be integrated into broader business operations. There must be no disconnect between risk management activities and organisational objectives. They must be built-in and not a bolt-on. #riskmanagement #risk #enterpriseriskmanagement #ERM #riskculture #continuouslearning

I have not seen for 20+ years of my professional work experience any exceptions from the Comway's Law. Understand the organization design and you will be able to forsee based on understanding of the law and your experience how the whole company evolves, how the projects are implemented and how the architecture on a conceptual level looks like and what are the pain points and why you can or can not improve it. And how everything will change when you will start to change the org design.
