China is making strides in high-speed transportation with the successful testing of a maglev train in a vacuum tube. This ambitious project, led by the China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation (CASIC), aims to push train speeds to an impressive 4,000 kph, potentially surpassing airplanes. This technology uses magnetic levitation to eliminate friction and operates in a low-vacuum environment to reduce air resistance. In trials, speeds of 623 kph have already been achieved, marking a significant step forward in domestic and international travel with potential environmental benefits. Despite the promising advancements, challenges remain, such as the need for extensive infrastructure and the high energy demands. This new catapult can rapidly launch a 30-ton projectile from 0 to 230 feet/s (0 to 70 m/s) in about 2.1 seconds. A team of scientists and engineers in Beijing developed this system, which could reduce the cost of EMALS catapults on aircraft carriers. According to the South China Morning Post (SCMP), it can handle about double the weight of China's most advanced stealth aircraft, the J-20. The new EMALS system was introduced on February 27 through a peer-reviewed paper in the Chinese academic journal Acta Armamentarii. #China #aircarrier ##electromagnetic
