Test blueprints or specifications are essential to the validity evidence of any decent exam. Where do they come from and how can you effectively develop them? Well, it depends on the type of test! https://lnkd.in/g275S4Ym

🌟 I'm pleased to share some updates from my sections of ENGI 1100 and ENGI 1331 over the Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 semesters. 🌟 As the summer session has started, I want to reflect on the progress we've made. Our focus has been on engineering identity and affirmations, aiming to empower students and help them visualize their roles in the engineering world. At the start of each module, students used photos and reflections to explore how they identify in these areas. The affirmations we emphasized were: 👔 "I am a Professional" 💡 "I am an Innovator" 🖌️ "I am a Designer" 💻 "I am a Programmer" 🧩 "I am a Problem Solver" 🎮 "I am a Gamer" These affirmations are designed to foster a mindset that drives confidence, creativity, and resilience. By reinforcing these identities, we aim to develop a community of engineers who are not only skilled but also self-assured and prepared to tackle future challenges. In future posts, I will share the specific activities we implemented in each of these areas to help students define who they are as engineers during the first year. I am eager to see the continued positive impact on our students. I am so thankful to the undergraduate teaching assistants (UTAs) who were instrumental in supporting this effort and assisting our students. It could not have happened without their inspiration and engagement with students Melina Moore Thatcher Howden Gavin Joyce Eduard Amador Sara Adnane Adrianna Taing Pichpiseth Long Johnson Amah If you are interested in getting involved and supporting students in any of these areas as I share more, please let me know. Looking for more opportunities for alumni and companies mentor future engineers. #EngineeringEducation #Innovators #Designers #Programmers #ProblemSolvers #GamingInEngineering #EngineeringIdentity #ENGI1100 #ENGI1331 #FutureEngineers #STEMEducation

Often, the best projects we get involved in are through serendipity. I started teaching Engineering Design at UCT in 2015. Soon, I was interacting with the D-School on how to fuse System Engineering (which teaches us "how" to design it right) with Design Thinking (which helps us to find the "right" thing to design). Since then we have been experimenting with pedagogy to train our students with both these skills. The following post summarises this journey so elegantly. #DesignThinking #SystemEngineering #Engineering #UCT #Design #Innovation #Pedagogy https://lnkd.in/gU_awb-K

EIZ's Response to an application for Class Upgrade. After 6 years of work experience, I opted to change my membership class from 'Graduate Engineer" to something more appropriate for such kind of experience. I did the online application to what I deemed the best of my ability. EIZ sent back my application with a comment "Attach certified copy of Transcript". I had the following questions: What is the use of a Transcript to an Engineer who completed their program over 6 years ago? Why do I need a Transcript when I have a full degree certificate? Also why would an engineer with over five(5) years of work experience need a Transcript? Who is even going to issue a Transcript after 6 years since graduation? Any comments from Engineers who have done upgrades before are welcome. #EIZ #Engineering #Engineer
