Are you prepared for the PSTN switch-off? OryxAlign, a London-based managed IT services provider, is urging UK manufacturers to prepare for the upcoming switch-off of the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN), which is transitioning to digital communication. Although the switch-off is due to be completed by the end of December 2025, it is being implemented gradually, affecting businesses at different times depending on their location. OryxAlign is providing a postcode checker to inform companies of their estimated switch-off date to help them prepare as soon as possible. #PSTN #SwitchOff #TelecomTransition #DigitalMigration #VoiceServices #CommunicationUpdate OryxAlign https://lnkd.in/eey2-572

#techtip As your business grows, so does your network's complexity. This growth often involves creating multiple isolated network segments or overlays to ensure security and efficiently manage traffic. However, with this increased complexity comes the challenge of maintaining visibility and control over all network segments. Traditional monitoring tools often struggle to keep up, leaving critical gaps in visibility and potentially compromising network performance. One key technology enabling this expansion is VXLAN (Virtual Extensible LAN). VXLAN is a powerful solution that allows businesses to scale their networks seamlessly while maintaining logical separation of traffic. It encapsulates network segments within tunnels, enabling efficient and flexible network management. VXLAN can help you navigate this complexity, ensuring your network remains efficient, secure, and fully visible. Navigating the Digital Switchover with T2 Fire & TECS The 'Digital Switchover' marks a monumental shift in the UK's telecommunications landscape, with the transition from the analogue-based Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) to 'voice over internet protocol' (VoIP) technology set to complete by 2027. This change will impact every landline across the country, ushering in a new era of communication. While the transition may be seamless for individual users, it presents significant challenges for organisations, especially social housing providers. These providers, who manage sheltered and supported housing with hard-wired systems, face the task of adapting systems that were not originally designed for internet technologies. Our expertise in both analogue and digital systems enables us to provide tailored guidance and solutions, ensuring a smooth and efficient switch to VoIP technology. The existing PSTN, a network that dates back to the Victorian era, is reaching the end of its useful life. While its infrastructure has remained largely unchanged, our communication needs have evolved dramatically. Fibre optic networks, offering faster speeds, greater reliability, and easier maintenance, are increasingly becoming the standard for broadband connections. The phase-out of the PSTN is closely linked to the roll-out of full fibre broadband in the UK. Although the timelines differ—phone services will stop using the copper network by the end of 2027, while the aim is for 85% full fibre coverage by 2025—the ultimate goal is to create a more robust and future-proof communication network. At T2 Fire & TECS, we are committed to helping you navigate this transition seamlessly. Why POTS Survives - Irwin Lazar "The continued use of POTS lines is driven by a number of factors: - Long-standing challenges related to using VoIP for fax - Specialty use cases for analog lines that require high reliability and local PSTN handoff, such as alarms, point-of-sale systems, paging systems, monitoring systems, and elevator phones - Local access to 911 call centers - Backup access to network devices for remote management - Remote site calling survivability in the event of a network outage - Support for small branch offices with minimal telecommunications needs " #Telecom #POTS

REDUCED MAINTENANCE COSTS Running your POTS line infrastructure requires expensive maintenance, support, and upgrades. Thankfully, there are digital alternatives that run at a fraction of the cost and require minimal upkeep. One of the most significant advantages of switching to new technology is the ability to monitor and manage your phone system remotely, saving you time and money in the long run. This helps to reduce downtime and ensures that your business can continue to operate at its best, no matter what issues arise. Replacing copper lines with a VoIP service eliminates the need to pay monthly charges for legacy modems and alarm devices. You can even consolidate your phone infrastructure into a single, low-cost, easy-to-manage bill. A digital solution also provides redundancy features to protect your mission-critical communications. In the event of a power outage, for example, your voice and data can be automatically transferred to another location without any disruption or loss of productivity. These services are essential for businesses with high security and critical customer service. They can’t afford to lose a call because their copper connection is down or their batteries have run out of power. With the help of an IT service partner, you can transition your company’s old phone lines to a new solution that will save you money while maintaining reliability and flexibility. As a result, it’s vital to identify which legacy devices rely on POTS lines before making the switch. This will help to determine how much of your telecommunications budget can be saved by converting these systems to a digital model. #POTSReplacement #POTS4GLTE #POTS5GLTE #POTSXPON #PotsReplacementSolution #VoIPpotsreplacement #POTSLineReplacement #POTSPhoneNetworksolutions #LTEPOTSReplacementforAnalogPhoneServices #POTSEmergencyPhoneReplacement #CellularPOTSLineReplacement #SIPpotsreplacement #PlainOldTelephoneService

Is your business ready for the digital switch over? Please take a look at this short video from Steve Blackshaw to help guide you through the next steps and ensure your business is future ready. #pstnswitchoff #digitalcommunications #btmeansbusiness
This morning, BT Group announced a revision to its timetable for moving all customers – business and consumer – off the PSTN and onto digital networks. The extension to January 2027 follows an industry wide pause and the introduction of the government’s charter to protect vulnerable customers. Despite this we are urging all our business customers, large and small, to act now and move over to all digital networks. Business customers should review their technology footprint and identify what’s still connected to the PSTN. Our team of experts is on hand to support, and any business can test their equipment for free at our R&D centre at Adastral Park. Where necessary, they should then proceed to switch any outdated equipment to an All-IP alternative at the earliest opportunity. To find out more about what this means for businesses, please watch the video below.

“We’re not in a rush” “It’s not until next year” “It’s just not a priority for us at this moment” This is the type of thing I’ve heard from so many decision makers over the past year and whilst this delay may make some businesses feel that they should deprioritise their migration plans, I strongly urge you to reconsider. Your competitors are already using All-IP solutions, saving them thousands in costs and accelerating productivity with hybrid-friendly and UC-friendly solutions. They can make/take calls, collaborate, upload/download massive files in seconds, and work from almost anywhere in the world. They can’t believe how stuck in the Copper Age they were before. Why should you wait, when the future is here right now? Don’t get left behind. And remember, business is #BetterOnBT

Our CIO, Chris Updegraft, shared some valuable insights on the rising costs and risks of sticking with outdated POTS lines. Don’t wait until the costs stack up—learn more about the benefits of POTS migration today. #POTSMigration #VoIP #Telecom
It’s easy to keep putting off that back-burner task—the one you’ve been avoiding indefinitely (you know...upgrading your old copper landlines). After all, if your POTS landlines have been working for years, why bother changing them now? But here’s the reality: the technology behind those old copper wire systems is obsolete, and the cost of keeping them is skyrocketing. The FCC no longer requires carriers to support POTS, so lines are disappearing fast. The impact on your budget can be shocking. We’ve had customers call us, surprised to find they were paying up to $1,500 per line for systems they hadn’t thought about in years (if ever). That’s a significant budget hit. But while POTS lines are obsolete, they still are required—or the only option—for critical systems like elevator rescue phones or fire alarm panels. A failure in one of these lines is not just a financial loss—it could endanger lives. With POTS infrastructure getting worse every day, this is a problem waiting to happen. Delaying an upgrade or waiting until these lines fail will cost you more and increase the risk of a disaster. Making changes to any life-critical system can feel overwhelming. Still, having worked on hundreds of these projects, I can assure you that taking the time to upgrade now heads off major headaches, costs, and liabilities. The good news is by transitioning from POTS to a modern VoIP system, most POTS users will dramatically reduce costs, make their infrastructure simpler and more reliable, and ensure critical systems are fully supported. At Fusion Connect, we’ve had the chance to work on some complex POTS replacement projects and have seen just how much money and stress our customers have saved by making the switch. The feeling is like pulling out a splinter—you don't realize how painful it was until it’s gone. There are some great resources you can lean on.
