Writing history Last week has been unforgettable. Tuesday, 29/10, the new Nordic Flow-Based Market Coupling went live, and Friday, 1/11, we can proudly say that the go-live went successfully. This marks one of the biggest changes in the Nordic electricity market ever. Behind this achievement are years of preparation and hard work. It represents a significant shift in how we utilize the grid and highlights the importance of Nordic coordination and collaboration. The new model, developed by the four Nordic TSOs - Fingrid, Statnett, Svenska Kraftnät, and Energinet - aligns with European electricity market regulations. It considers actual power flows, allowing for more efficient use of capacity and a more reliable power supply. This approach is crucial for the complex Nordic grid, where multiple countries are interconnected. Thank you to everyone involved for your dedication and hard work. CEER and the EU Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER) publish today their paper on “Challenges of the Future Electricity System - Recommendations and Commitments”.
