U.S. Energy Department’s Guidance on Infrastructure Law Definition Supports Domestic Battery Supply Chain. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has finalized its guidance clarifying the statutory definition of foreign entity of concern, or FEOC, in a section of the 2021 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, or IIJA, that applies to programs related to the battery supply chain. This interpretive guidance is expected to assist automakers and other stakeholders...… The post U.S. Energy Department’s Guidance on Infrastructure Law Definition Supports Domestic Battery Supply Chain appeared first on EnerKnol. https://lnkd.in/gcyYzUDK

Despite the 2021 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), commonly referred to as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and it's $1.2 trillion budget over ten years, including $550 billion in new spending for infrastructure projects, the US power grid is no more reliable today than 4 years ago. The North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), which assesses grid reliability, finds that much of the central and eastern U.S. could experience blackouts should a significant and lasting cold snap descend on the nation. “Electricity supplies are at risk from freezing temperatures that threaten reliable operation of BPS [bulk power systems] generators, fuel supply issues for natural-gas-fired generation, and wind and solar resource energy limitations,” the report warned.

Check out this excellent discussion in Utility Dive on designing, building and obtaining permits for underground power systems from knowledgeable & experienced specialists at Burns & McDonnell: Thomas Konopka on permitting, Anna Sleeter, P.E. on design & Wally Petrovic on construction. "Of course, the way utility work is done today is different than in the past and different from how it will be done in the future. Innovations such as ground penetrating radar, which provides increased visibility below the ground’s surface, and remote equipment operation, which minimizes human exposure to hazardous work elements, help make underground construction safer. But, ultimately, no matter the era lived in or the technology used, deftly mastering intricate design, permitting and construction processes for complicated underground electric utility projects is crucial to success and takes an experienced team." #powerdelivery #undergrounding #powerlines #expert #insight #powergrid #criticalinfrastructure #construction #underground #power #electricity #infrastructure #damageprevention #gridresilience #gridreliability #gridmodernization #PDi2 https://lnkd.in/ehVKd_zD

Big news! Thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has just announced selections for nearly $430M for 14 projects across 12 states! The projects, which are located in communities with de-commissioned coal mines or coal power plants, were selected by DOE Manufacturing & Energy Supply Chains Office (MESC) to address critical #energy #supplychain vulnerabilities. This investment will lead to an additional $500M in private sector #investment into small- and medium-manufacturers and create over 1,900 good-paying, high quality #jobs. This is investing in America with purpose! Follow this link for the full update: https://lnkd.in/eksvAZz6.

New transmission supports the delivery of clean energy, enhances grid reliability, and creates jobs. Today the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced plans to invest $1.5 billion for four transmission projects that will support nearly 1,000 miles of lines. The investment is supplied through the Transmission Facilitation Program, thanks to the 2021 bipartisan infrastructure law. The move will create 7,100 megawatts of added capacity across six states and 9,000 construction jobs. bit.ly/4dwW9mV

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has introduced the Coordinated Interagency Transmission Authorizations and Permits (CITAP) Programme, aiming to streamline the permitting and environmental processes for electricity transmission projects. Under this initiative, federal agencies will collaborate to review developer submissions within a two-year timeframe, ensuring compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). The programme also emphasizes public participation and engagement with communities and tribes. Simultaneously, the Biden Administration announced a $331 million investment in the Southwest Intertie Project (SWIP-N), a transmission line connecting Idaho and Nevada. This funding, facilitated through the Transmission Facilitation Program (TFP) of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, aims to bolster grid capacity and facilitate the transmission of renewable energy across the Western US. The Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) reported a significant increase in the interconnection queue for grid access in the US, highlighting the urgent need for reforms and expansions in grid and transmission infrastructure to support the growth of renewable energy sources. https://lnkd.in/emdTwTZp #Transmission #EnergyTransition #OdinGlobal
