One of the big tools that New York plans on using in order to meet their ambitious climate targets as enshrined in the CLCPA is the proposed Cap & Invest program. This framework could have economy wide impacts as New York transitions to a cleaner, more resilient green economy. On the 24 February 2022 - everything changed. Russia invaded Ukraine. A full blown energy crisis began. Today we are still feeling the effects. More than 2 years on the outgoing European Commission should be credited for achieving what many thought impossible at the time: replacing Russian gas while keeping the lights on.   But huge challenges remain for the incoming European Commission. The continent faces headwinds in energy security, decarbonisation and keeping industry competitive.   Energy-intensive industries in Europe are considering leaving. They’re being seduced by cheaper energy abroad with less stringent environmental legislation and more subsidies. In this week’s episode, we take a hard look at the unavoidable decisions the Commission has to take now to ensure the continent doesn’t lurch towards another crisis. I discuss the first reactions and the view from Europe's power sector with our Brussels correspondent Siobhan Hall and Cillian O'Donoghue of Eurelectric.
