Electric vehicles and generative AI are steering us toward a crucial conversation on the supply of electricity. As emission reduction targets loom closer, the need for more energy clashes with the commitment to cleaner sources. It's a conundrum: quick fixes like coal and gas clash with cleaner alternatives like wind, solar, and nuclear, which can't scale fast enough. The likely solution? A hybrid approach. Short-term demand may rely on fossil fuels, while we steadily integrating cleaner options. But let’s not forget about energy transmission, which often gets overlooked. Expanding clean energy production capacity is one thing; ensuring it can be used efficiently is another. We need to be able to have sunny days in Arizona power rainy days in Seattle. We can't afford skyrocketing prices in the short term, and we shouldn't completely halt progress on the clean energy transition during short-term demand spikes. Instead, let's aim for a middle ground. It's about fostering cleaner, more efficient systems, while meeting today’s immediate needs. https://lnkd.in/eUu4UTcv #WSJ #EnergyTransition #Finance #CleanEnergy

As Utility Dive says in a recent article, state utility regulators are battling load growth, reliability and permitting amid energy transition. Utility regulators are facing competing pressure as the energy transition continues, including the need to balance state and corporate clean energy targets while prioritizing reliability, affordability and orderly infrastructure buildout. At the same time, highly anticipated load growth seems to be complicating efforts to decarbonize even further. With affordability at the top of a regulators' mind, the need for optimizing clean energy, capacity, and infrastructure investments has never been more important. You lump all your talk as Nuclear (meaning only Fission) and fail to talk about fusion. You are, as the nuclear fission industry is, ignorant of what's happening around you. Pull your uranium heads out, start adjusting your industry to fusion energy and start preparing to enter the commercially growing fusion energy industry. As it dawns on Earth like the sun. Great Headline Guardian on Nuclear fission. https://lnkd.in/g8sMZtpR Fission is moving towards obsolescence at an accelerated pace, as it is "out of step, out of time, out of place," and merely a temporary industry globally. https://lnkd.in/gbd_mZqk Commercial fusion electrical generation is a promising and innovative method of producing sustainable and clean energy. By 2028, Helion is expected to start producing electricity from its first fusion commercial power plant, which will provide electricity to Microsoft. The plant will produce at least 50 MWe after an initial ramp-up period. https://lnkd.in/gY9J3MQY Now see what news is happening in the Fusion industry in the world. https://lnkd.in/g9hMBD7a As fission trebles, fission fuel shortage is increasingly real, as linked below. https://lnkd.in/gze5rwpr
These attacks on (cheap, reliable - renewable!) energy by Opposition leader Peter Dutton are being pushed by US-style dark money disinformation outfit the "Institute of Public Affairs". It's a fossil fuels PR arm. Don't fall for it (ICYMI): https://lnkd.in/gpC-yHrR

Commentary by Ivy Main in The Virginia Mercury on Dominion Energy’s 2024 #IRP, with reflections on SCC and #CEUR related actions. Click into the article to find the memo being discussed. “The SCC is not alone in its concerns about Dominion’s cavalier approach to its IRP obligations. Last year, with a goal of improving utility oversight, the General Assembly revitalized its Commission on Electric Utility Regulation, which formerly served as a graveyard for utility reform bills. (CEUR used to be pronounced “sewer,” but commission members would dearly love it if you would now call it “the cure.”) In a September 16 memo, CEUR director Carrie Hearne recommended members consider a list of reforms that would, among other things, require Dominion to include in its IRP “a VCEA conforming scenario that does not assume to exercise an immediate exemption due to reliability concerns.” This scenario would have to incorporate the social cost of carbon, meet energy efficiency metrics (another area where Dominion has fallen short), plan for the retirement of fossil fuel plants targeted for closure in the VCEA, and assume an “unobstructed” buildout of renewable energy and storage (removing the artificial caps Dominion currently employs). In other words, CEUR would like Dominion to follow the law.” https://lnkd.in/eGnGQqe3
Once again, Dominion’s energy plan falls short. This time, the SCC isn’t having it. • Virginia Mercury
