A new #research #report by RACE for 2030 has called for a nationally coordinated approach to fully harness the #power of #consumer #energy resources in Australia. Authors Mark Paterson and Matthew Bird examined almost 200 #studies, #trials and demonstration #projects over the last five to seven years, mapping the key #strategic and topical gaps that must be systemically addressed for the full #value of consumer energy resources to be realised. RACE for 2030 CEO, Bill Lilley, said that a more future-ready #powersystem is required to integrate the four- to five-fold growth of #rooftopsolar embedded in Australia’s official projections and achieve its global #netzero commitments.

The transition to a decarbonized power system requires an enormous amount of innovation, particularly with the technologies used to generate electricity and to monitor and balance the grid. But decarbonization demands innovation in other realms, including in the business models utilities use to sustainably serve their customers, shareholders, and society. In a series of new white papers, EPRI explores the drivers behind business model innovation and provides a structured way for utility leaders to evaluate new business model options. Find out more in a recent Energy Central article by EPRI’s Neil Hughes on the topic. https://lnkd.in/eUH7E4T3

Here's a video extract of our CEO, Justin Hoffman, from a recent panel session hosted by Texas Global Business, LLC during SXSW in Austin. Pertinent to the work he does for cSolutions, the support he provides as a GlobalScot for Scottish Development International, and as the Houston Ambassador for Scottish Business Network, here's the video link: https://lnkd.in/gMkrc9-b "As second-generation Oil and Gas from Aberdeen, I knew I would eventually end up in Houston. The energy relationship between Houston, TX and Aberdeen, Scotland goes back to the early 70’s when expertise from Texas helped Scotland open up The North Sea. Scottish companies further developed those products, technologies and services in extremely harsh environments which has allowed them to cross-pollinate that expertise back into Texas. Today, we see similar cross-pollination in offshore (and onshore) wind (and across other renewables) whereby, you have established capabilities and expertise in the UK and Europe which are needed in Texas and the rest of the US. With desire, drive, and great potential, we continue to see this cross-pollination in the energy sector through requests going back and forth between the two regions to build infrastructure, services, and OEMs, presenting nearshoring opportunities to address or eliminate supply chain bottlenecks." #TexasGlobal #UKBusinessEvents #USMotorsports #Texas #TradeMission #ScotlandIsNow

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has allocated $5 million to advance research and development of lead-acid batteries to provide LDES services. The initiative, supported by Battery Council International (BCI), a North American trade association, and the Consortium for Battery Innovation, will focus on pre-competitive research to enhance lead-acid battery performance. “We have two technical issues we’re trying to address. One is cycle life, which is extremely important. The more cycles you get out of a battery, the lower the cost per unit,” said Tim Ellis, BCI’s Technical Director. “The other is increasing the capacity utilisation of lead batteries.” The three-year programme will combine economic analysis with materials science research to develop lead-acid batteries capable of providing more than 10 hours of #energystorage. Participating companies will share equal ownership of the resulting intellectual property, allowing them to apply the advancements to their own products and integrate them as they see fit. As the U.S. advances its energy transition, #LDES remains vital for managing power grids across long distances and state boundaries, enhancing grid resiliency and ensuring a #sustainable energy future. #LDESenablers are essential to deploy #1500GWby2030.
