Let's talk about briefs. No, not those briefs. Content briefs. Your content brief is the roadmap you give to your writers, designers, and other content creators to ensure everyone in the process understands each piece of content's goals, audience, tone, and specific messaging. It's usually the first step in the content process, but it's also one that's overlooked. How important is your content brief? A comprehensive brief saves time, money, and headaches by - Providing clear direction from the start of the writing process - Reducing the need for revisions - Limiting the risks of communication - Outlining the goals, target audience, and key messages for the writer to keep in mind When your content brief is clear and detailed, you make life easier for your writers, paving the way for high-quality content that truly connects with your audience and increases engagement. Of course, there's a fine line to walk, because briefs that are too in-depth or restrictive can stifle creativity, become overly burdonsome for your content team, slow down the content creation process, and force the creator to focus too much on details and not enough on the overall message. That's why you need a brief that gives your team the information they need, without being too restrictive. I've helped financial, legal, and other companies to craft briefs that deliver the content they need. If you're ready to elevate your content or want to chat about content strategies, reach out!

The typical user spends only 5.6 seconds scanning written content. Since there's very little time to make a first impression, make sure that you use a compelling image to support your copy and catch your reader's eye. Here are some other tips to think about... 1. Find an image that evokes curiosity. You want your audience to look, connect, and react to your visual content. According to Quicksprout, articles that have thought-provoking images have 94% more views than those without images. With visuals that evoke emotion, your audience will be more likely to connect in some way to your core message. 2. Always caption your image. Don’t just add the image without linking it to your copy. Captions give your pictures context and credibility. 3. Pick an image with one or two focal points. As mentioned above, we can process visual content much more quickly than written. Just make sure the image isn't too busy or derails from the written copy. With shortened attention spans and the swift pace of ingesting content, pictures are the key to grabbing your audience’s attention—and to making a constructive, memorable, and hopefully actionable impression.
