https://lnkd.in/epYiZqmp The music industry is progressing in some areas and failing in others. Will it be bands that independently make the efforts to change how gigs and festivals are run? Recent festivals have claimed efforts towards a greener experience, unfortunately much of this is greenwashing and a tick box exercise. With almost two decades (urgh) of working at festivals and events, small and large I have seen how many have paid experts and taken advice that appears to reduce the impact of the event on paper (recycled of course) but actually the end result has been more waste created! Massive Attack are making an effort will more follow suit? (I am ignoring the electric vehicles part as not up for that debate quite yet.) #music #gigs #festivals #venues

Five years ago Mark Mulligan made a defining prediction that fandom would drive the future of the music industry. In this landmark keynote Mark and Tatiana Cirisano playfully lay out how two parallel music universes are emerging, one for lean back listening, and another, which is just getting going, for musical interactions, a new form of fandom in which fans speed up, slow down, remix, repurpose, and make from scratch music themselves. If you’re still wrapping your head around the great bifurcation debate, start here.
