The Inflation Reduction Act is a game-changer in Rhode Island, where federal clean energy incentives are supporting clean energy projects and creating jobs. Robin Hollow Solar Project is one such example. This 55-megawatt solar facility provides power to about 6,800 households. Sidney Jablonski, a third-year apprentice with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 99, worked on Robin Hollow: “Since solar became a thing, we’ve been able to double our [apprenticeship] class size, and we’re hoping it’ll grow even more with solar and offshore wind. I hope for a better environment…. [Clean energy] can help so many people in terms of the climate and the economy.” Learn more about the Inflation Reduction Act’s impact. ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/gMyFjw9V

Leading Causes of Skills Shortages in the Renewable Energy Sector According to recruiters and companies in the industry, primary drivers of the skills shortage include gaps in education, training, and succession planning. The skills shortage challenge is also systemic: organizations feel it would be beneficial to have a large emerging talent pool, and they also believe it would be great if there was a quicker means of reskilling and upskilling people internally without compromising on risk. To ensure the success of high-quality skilling programs, it is crucial to closely examine and address the challenges that can impact their effectiveness. The renewable energy sector is not alone; unemployment rates are historically low in many countries while future skills needs are rapidly evolving. There is no quick fix, but there is clearly an opportunity to do more succession planning and building the pipeline through programs like apprenticeships and internships. Recent estimates suggest that, by 2030, there will be a global shortage of seven million skilled workers required for climate and energy projects. An interesting topic came up in the office today… 💡 We’re noticing a growing trend which is that more and more candidates are actively looking to transition into the renewable energy sector. With the government ramping up its investment in green energy and the gradual phase out of oil and gas, it’s clear that upskilling the workforce will soon become essential to meet the increasing demands of the industry. In many ways, skills are quickly becoming the new currency. Finding the right talent who not only fits the technical requirements but also brings the right mindset and adaptability will be more valuable than ever. If you’re a talent leader or business owner, I’d love to hear how you’re navigating this shift. Are you exploring apprenticeships, looking at graduates eager to step into the industry or offering specialised training to current or new employees? On my side, I’m working with a range of professionals in the sector from EV specialists to solar and wind experts who are actively seeking new opportunities. If you have specific hiring needs, or just want to chat about the talent landscape, feel free to reach out! #recruitment #renewables #solar #wind #ev #greenenergy #greenvolution
