Relationships are making a comeback!
Sharing this video that Azadeh Williams from AZK produced at our recent TechLeaders event, where I'm interviewed on the need for building media relationships.
This stems from my belief we're moving into an era of elevated content. As AI makes producing content more efficient, but also consequently more abundant, the only stories that cut-through and move the needle for publishers are unique, differentiated and ultimately provide true value for the audience.
Those types of stories don't get created sitting at a desk, reading and writing. They come from talking, questioning, digging, understanding - and all those things need people-to-people relationships and communications.
The folks that are brilliant at PR, understand who needs to know who and what knowledge foundation may not yet be in place. It's no coincidence that all of the PRs who advocated for their companies or clients to attend TechLeaders - Amanda Do, 💯 Matthew Wu, Angela Coombes, Ayla Fitzgibbon, Justin Stolarski, Kathryn Goater and Louise Roberts are the best in the business.
Too much PR $$ is for vanity purposes. Big, flashy events that look good in photos, but how many real relationships get built, which are the foundations of your ongoing media relations success.

Today, i had the chance to open the Ragan Internal Communications Conference, where I discussed the transformative power of AI in communications. It is always great to get a chance to meet with/share ideas with other communicators, we have so many of the same challenges and opportunities!
A few of the points I made:
AI-powered tools are reshaping our industry—streamlining content creation and measuring employee sentiment. These can reduce administrative burdens, helping us focus on the strategic and creative work that drives real impact; and which we like more. :)
One takeaway I hope everyone leaves with is the power of practice: as communicators, we must embrace these tools, learn through hands-on experience, and demystify how AI can elevate our skills.
Responsibility and authenticity are crucial in AI development, as implementing technology should always align with our core values—transparency and trust.
Looking ahead, it’s clear that the intersection of AI and communications is where next-level innovation will occur. How do you see AI shaping our industry in the near future?
So many great takeaways here at Microsoft - the tools at our fingertips are changing the way we work. As I sit here listening to the CCO of Microsoft discuss the power of AI, I realize we have access to tools that help us do more than we can really comprehend. Our people are our greatest asset, and with AI, we can empower them to reach new heights of innovation and efficiency. The future of communication is here, and it’s exciting to see how technology is transforming our industries and shaping the way we connect and collaborate. #AI#Innovation#RaganCommunications#Microsoft#FutureOfWork
