At the CIIA Scotland Conference 2024, we are currently hearing how Gen AI can support the administrative processes involved in internal audit reviews….what are your thoughts on the use of AI in audit?
It’s is very scary thought! The data protection implications are enormous.
Personally I think that using AI to generate draft internal audit reports would need to be handled very, very carefully. Putting your clients information into AI software is a very big step. So the implications need to be thought through carefully. I know that some firms already use software to automatically generate reports but this is taking it to a whole new level.
I tend to agree David Archibald, the key point is 'client's data' and the secure and appropriate processing of this data. Automating, or assisting, process tasks like generating letters or running basic (especially numeric) analysis is one thing, but can AI replicate the internal auditor's professional scepticism and audit 'nose'....

3wImagine the reaction from your client (whether external or internal) that you disclosed a bot wrote the internal audit report!!!!!!!! They would throw the report (and you) out the door!
