Hubert 'depesz' Lubaczewski: Waiting for PostgreSQL 17 – MERGE / SPLIT partitions 🔥 Exciting news for PostgreSQL geeks! I stumbled upon a game-changing blog post by Hubert 'depesz' Lubaczewski, where he spills the beans on the eagerly awaited PostgreSQL 17 feature – MERGE / SPLIT partitions! 💥 Picture this: On April 6th, 2024, the brilliant Alexander Korotkov committed a mind-blowing patch that introduced the ALTER TABLE ... MERGE PARTITIONS ... command. 🚀 Now, what's so special about it, you ask? Well, this new DDL command allows us to merge multiple partitions into a single partition in the target table! 😱 Imagine the possibilities! No more struggling with countless partitions cluttering up your database. With a simple MERGE command, you can streamline your partitions and bring order to the chaos. 🗂️ Kudos to Alexander Korotkov for this groundbreaking contribution! 👏 Hubert 'depesz' Lubaczewski does a phenomenal job breaking it all down in his post, "Waiting for PostgreSQL 17 – MERGE / SPLIT partitions." Make sure to check it out and give him the credit he deserves for this fantastic discovery! 💪 So, fellow Postgres aficionados, let's gear up and get ready for the PostgreSQL revolution! 💥 Stay tuned for more thrilling updates from the world of PostgreSQL performance and availability! 🚀 [Blog Post Link: https://lnkd.in/eaaPfwP9] You can find the full article here: https://postgr.es/p/6vn

I love working with PostgreSQL. It's incredibly versatile and can do pretty much anything. However the documentation is so extensive, it can be a little daunting! 😅 That's why I built a PostgreSQL assistant with Needle. It helps me find the answers I need, quickly and directly from the official docs. Take a look at this 4 min RAG tutorial: https://lnkd.in/eeM_JjpC #rag #genai #aiengineering #needle #llm #postgresql #database #productivity

PostgreSQL 17 has just been released! 🐘 Postgres continues to evolve impressively, adapting to our fast-changing tech landscape while maintaining its core strength. My advice to tech leaders and founders: Start with Postgres and push it to its limits. More often than not, you'll find the limitation is your own expertise, not Postgres itself. I'm glad I didn't write it off after my first disastrous encounter in 2012 (I accidentally deleted a database as a student!). Now, 12 years later, I'm most excited about the new `JSON_TABLE` feature in version 17. It elegantly bridges the gap between JSON data and strictly-typed relations, streamlining data manipulation.
