🌐 “Trust in AI cannot be assumed—it must be earned.” A recent Deloitte survey offers insights into the opportunities and risks which this new technology creates. From my reading, communications professionals should take note! While consumers are not worried about AI itself, they do feel concern about professionals potentially relying too heavily on it, representing a threat to their own expertise. Generative AI describes algorithms which can create new content based on the data they’ve been exposed to. From synopsising news articles, making investment recommendations, or offering medical advice, the technology can help people to make more informed decisions. The Deloitte survey shows that nearly three-quarters (73%) of respondents trust AI to generate summaries of news articles, while 67% trust it to create better work experiences for employees. For communications professionals, this is good news, not least considering the efficiencies that come from using GenAI effectively. However, a word of warning. Trust, transparency and regulation are crucial. The European Union’s AI Act is a highly comprehensive response to ensure the responsible use of AI, and address concerns related to privacy, data security, and bias. Yet, regulation must be augmented by a responsible and proactive approach from businesses – including communications professionals. According to Emmanuel Adeleke, writing in The Irish Times this week, “When used correctly, AI can empower professionals to make better decisions, faster, and with more accuracy. But its success will continue to hinge on one key factor: trust. To build and maintain this trust, businesses must focus on making AI understandable and transparent. This includes clear communication about how AI is being used. Ensuring AI is used responsibly, in conjunction with appropriate safeguards and keeping human judgment at the centre of the process, is essential to unlocking its full potential.” Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/efaBiTkR #AI #GenAI #Communications

Great to share my thoughts with The Irish Times about the transformative potential of #GenerativeAI and the crucial role of trust and transparency in its adoption. As AI continue to reshape all industries, it’s essential that businesses focus on building systems that are fair, unbiased, and transparent. Our recent Deloitte survey in Ireland shows an intriguing trend: while many trust AI to perform tasks directly, that trust diminishes when human professionals use AI to support decision-making. Trust in AI must be earned, not assumed. Through transparency, regulation, and responsible AI use, we can ensure that AI continues to be a tool for progress while keeping human judgement at the forefront. #GenerativeAI #TrustInAI #DigitalTransformation #AIRegulation #Deloitte #ArtificialIntelligence https://lnkd.in/d9-xx36T

#OECD #AI Principle 1.3: #Transparency and #Explainability: “This principle is about transparency and responsible disclosure around AI systems to ensure that people understand when they are engaging with them and can challenge outcomes.” Quote: “AI Actors should commit to transparency and responsible disclosure regarding AI systems. To this end, they should provide meaningful information, appropriate to the context, and consistent with the state of art: to foster a general understanding of AI systems, including their capabilities and limitations, ◾ to make stakeholders aware of their interactions with AI systems, including in the workplace, ◾ where feasible and useful, to provide plain and easy-to-understand information on the sources of data/input, factors, processes and/or logic that led to the prediction, content, recommendation or decision, to enable those affected by an AI system to understand the output, and, ◾ to provide information that enable those adversely affected by an AI system to challenge its output.” Read about the rationale for this OECD AI values-based principle in the OECD.AI Policy Observatory at https://lnkd.in/e2bty_-A #artificialintelligence #trustworthyAI #inclusiveAI #sustainableAI #purposefulleadership #explainableAI #transparentAI #AIexplanability #AItransparency

AI is not just a buzzword. It is a powerful technology that can transform businesses, industries, and society. But how can we make the most of the AI opportunity in Australia? The Productivity Commission has released a set of three papers that explore the potential economic benefits of AI, the challenges and risks involved, and the role of government in supporting AI uptake and innovation. The papers highlight the importance of data quality and access, regulation and governance, skills and education, and public trust and acceptance for fostering a productive and responsible AI ecosystem in Australia. it is great leading a team in Australia and I look forward to the discussions they will have with clients on these topics. What are your thoughts on AI and its impact on Australia's future? Share your views in the comments below or reach out to your UKG ERM if you are already a customer.
