This week I celebrate 10 years at AtkinsRéalis.... I'm not sure I feel old enough to have worked in one place so long! As I reflect on my time here, I wonder.... Why have I stayed so long? It's a question I have asked many of my colleagues over the years, each with much longer tenures, but their reflections are very similar to mine: 🚀 Opportunities - I've never needed to move to further my career. I've had six different roles/promotions over the last 10 years, each with its own challenges and I've always had the freedom, support and mentoring, to shape my career to suit my interests and skill set. ⭐The people - AtkinsRéalis attracts a wealth of talented individuals, which has given me the opportunity to learn and be mentored by some of the best people in the industry, all of whom share the same collective drive and passion to #EngineeraBetterFuture for our planet and its people. 🌍 Community - While each of the people working for AtkinsRéalis on their own are brilliant, we are so much stronger together, which creates a fantastic sense of community. Uplift, Empower, Unite: Mary McLean for a Brighter Sault Tribe Future 📢 Attention Sault Tribe members!📢 It's time for a crucial conversation about our tribe's future. Our employees are the backbone of our community, yet they're feeling undervalued, overworked, and underappreciated. It's unacceptable that they're being treated as expendable resources. As a candidate for the Unit One board seat, I'm committed to advocating for change. Retention should be a top priority for the Sault Tribe Board of Directors. We can't afford to lose valuable team members due to neglect and disregard. Recruitment is important, but retention is paramount. We can't afford the time and resources it takes to fill vacancies caused by high turnover rates. We need policies that empower our leadership to retain dedicated team members, not just recruit new ones. If elected, I will fight for better recruitment and retention strategies. I will work to develop policies that allow negotiation with team members considering other opportunities. 𝐇𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐲 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐞! 🐝 This past year has been all about career growth – hence the LinkedIn birthday post (where else would I share this, right?) I'm incredibly grateful to lead a team of talented educators and creators, and to learn from them and the entire TripleTen team every day. And let me tell you - imposter syndrome is real, folks. Being a manager means leading people who do the 𝑎𝑐𝑡𝑢𝑎𝑙 work. It makes you question: Do they even need me? 😅 But here’s the deal – our job is to create the right environment and provide the context so the experts can do their thing. That’s it. So, to my fellow managers: your role isn’t to do it better than them. It’s to give clarity, facilitate communication, and connect the dots. Give your people what they need – time, space, and sometimes, just silence – and watch them crush it. It works. Here’s to another great year! And shoutout to my network – you’re all amazing 💙
