Are Your Water Bottle Refill Stations Safe? Water bottle refill stations are a great way to promote sustainability and reduce plastic waste. But did you know they can also pose potential health risks if not properly maintained? When these stations aren’t cleaned regularly, they can become a breeding ground for bacteria and other contaminants. Even with filtration systems in place, regular cleaning and maintenance are essential to ensure safe, clean drinking water. ❓ Questions to consider: • Is filtration alone enough to ensure safety? • Are these refill stations included in your facility’s water management program? Infection prevention starts with awareness and proactive measures. Don’t let overlooked maintenance compromise the health of your community. How is your organization addressing the maintenance of water refill stations? Share your thoughts below! #InfectionPrevention #Sustainability #WaterSafety #HealthcareFacilities #EnvironmentalHealth
Oh, this is so disgusting!
If you start looking, you're going to find all sorts of areas that are a lot dirtier than you might imagine. I would hate to take a close look at the water taps in my house.... 🤢
I worry about these at the airport but also worry about the one built into my fridge 💧🦠💧🦠
They promote Biofilms and Antibiotic Resistant Organisms if not properly mantained
Emily Barnard, MPH, CIC, HACP-CMS, Thank you for sharing this! During the last few years, we have seen how many modern healthcare systems have removed the drinking water stations, mainly because of the infection risk, and replaced them with hand washing stations - good for infection prevention.

2dI use a UV light water bottle (Larq brand) when I travel which I don't know if it does anything or not, but I saw someone washing their hands in the water station at O'hare the other day. Yuck!
