Here are two myths and their respective facts that everyone should know. "Myth: The rise in EV charging threatens the stability of the U.S. power grid.  Fact: Despite concerns of overloading the power grid, California claims charging more than 1 million EVs represents less than 1% of the grid load for the entire state, including during peak hours. Charging at night can help reduce the impact on the power grid, and it’s cheaper as well. Myth: There aren’t enough EV charging stations.  Fact: Over 60,000 EV charging stations serve the entire nation, and they’re becoming more accessible thanks to government initiatives and the rise in EV popularity. EVs can also be easily charged at home. "

California is setting the pace for electric vehicles in the US! Here's the exciting news: There's now one fast-charging EV station for every five gas stations in the state. This rapid growth is part of a multi-billion dollar plan to create the most extensive charging network in America. The plan will add 40,000 new public chargers and leverage federal funding for an additional 250,000 along highways and shopping centers. ️ California is making EVs a realistic option for more people, with grants and rebates available for low-income residents. The U.S. has nearly 4 million EVs. If each EV discharged 5 kilowatts to the grid, it would add 20,000 megawatts, double the capacity of California's grid batteries built over the last decade. This resource could prevent blackouts during extreme heat waves like those in 2020. With Baltimore Gas and Electric proving technical feasibility, more utility programs should be launched. As more EVs enable bidirectionality, consumers need to overcome their fear of charge/discharge dynamics to reap the benefits.

California’s goal to build a million electric vehicle (EV) chargers by 2030 presents a daunting challenge due to the immense scale and pace of investment required. Without substantial improvements in funding, permitting processes, and grid upgrades, California risks falling short of its EV infrastructure targets. Ted Lamm, CLEE's associate director, states that "the magnitude of building what California needs in coming years likely dwarfs the public funding available," adding that state and federal programs will “only fund a fraction,” and the state needs to spend that money on lower-income communities. EV's vs. EV infrastructure. Rural America will decide in my opinion. As much as I understand North America is heading there, we still need a massive amount of infrastructure to make this a reality.
