Whilst he figured out what he really wanted, he took on flexible work (driving for Uber and delivery for Amazon). Now he’s successfully launched a profitable portfolio career. I left My Home at The Age of 17 Relocated to a new city, far from my family. Until then, I had never been away from home, a young town boy with little experience of the outside world. Once, my father asked if I could travel alone. I confusedly replied, "If the bus drops me off, I can go." He laughed and asked, "What if it doesn't drop you off?" My father often worried about me, thinking I was too sensitive & not very strong. During a holiday vacation from college, my uncle proposed a job position. My father hesitated, saying I was still studying. But my uncle insisted, and I went through an interview process. Despite the interviewers' concerns about my young age, I got hired in the marketing field at just 17. I was the youngest employee in the company, but I performed exceptionally well and received recognition multiple times. Fast forward to today, with over 12 years of experience in marketing, I am now the proud founder of a tech startup, Wota Global. I've missed many family moments & the first year away from home was especially tough, there were times I felt lonely . But I never looked back, faced challenges with bravery & continuously Upskilled my education Today, my father & the entire family are proud of my achievements. Take it from me, a DoorDash delivery driver turned tech —making a career change is daunting. It's scary, filled with uncertainties and what-ifs. You might hear doubts from others, even from family and friends. But here's the truth: you have to follow your passion, regardless of the noise around you. 💪 When I decided to pivot my career, I faced a whirlwind of emotions—fear of the unknown, anxiety about leaving a stable(ish) job, and doubts about succeeding in a new field. But one thing remained constant: my passion and the belief that I was meant for something different, something more aligned with who I am. Here's what I learned through my journey, and I hope these steps can help you if you're considering a career shift: Listen to Your Heart ❤️ Reflect on what truly makes you happy and fulfilled. What excites you? What are you passionate about? Trust that inner voice—it knows you best. Research and Learn 📚 Dive into the new field. Read books, take online courses, attend workshops, and talk to people in the industry. The more you know, the more confident you'll feel. Build a Support System 🤝 Surround yourself with positive influences. Find mentors, join communities, and connect with others who have made similar transitions. Their insights and encouragement are invaluable. Create a Plan 📝 Set short-term and long-term goals and create a step-by-step plan to achieve them. A roadmap makes the process less overwhelming. Start Small, but Start Now 🚀 Begin with small steps—side projects, freelance work, or volunteering. Gaining experience and building a portfolio will boost your confidence. Ignore the Naysayers 🚫 Not everyone will understand your decision, and that's okay. This is your journey, not theirs. Focus on your goals and trust in your abilities. Stay Resilient 💪 There will be challenges and setbacks. Stay resilient, keep learning, and don't be afraid to pivot again if needed. Your career is a journey, not a destination. Follow Your Passion 🌟 Your passion will be your guiding light. It will give you the strength to overcome obstacles and the joy that comes from doing what you love. Do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life. What I 'love' to do ain't gonna' pay the bills. But there's an alternative. I worked for a long time in one industry. I promise you I'm far (FAR I TELL YOU!) from an expert in it. I picked up a lot of really great and useful skills, but frightening little industry knowledge. And that kinda' makes sense; I never 'loved' the industry. I enjoyed my time at work, mostly, and knew enough to do most of my jobs well. So do I want to go back to that industry or do I want to do something I 'love'? Recently I've tried to split the difference in my job searches. Working in training and IT, my skills are portable. Managing a project uses similar tools and methods whether it's a call logging system or new version of a revolutionary cat tree. I can develop a training plan for a new retirement product or assembly of a McRib. And that changed how I was looking for a new job. I started going through my phone, my bank statement, my home office; what products and services do I use, and would I like to work for them? I drink Starbucks coffee, so follow them here and check what's open. I watch Netflix regularly; how about them? Heck, there's one company I'm aggressively networking in with the hopes of landing something. #dreamjob If Starbucks hired me today would I 'love' that job? Maybe. But working for a company that provides a product/service that I love would increase the chances. What do you think?

A coffee shop or a bookstore. Time and again, these are the escape routes people mention when they are miserable at work and looking for an immediate exit. Before you trade it all in for coffee ☕ and books 📚, try this instead: ➡ Look for the LEARNING. What about this experience is equipping you for future opportunities? ➡ Look for the IMPACT. What can you do at work today to serve another person? ➡ Look for the PURPOSE. What about this role/task connects to the way you want to contribute to the world? While these may be short term solutions, they’ll often create just enough space for you to see more possibilities. What ideas would you add to this list? And which escape route job would you pick? Personally, a coffee shop sounds too stressful. Noncaffeinated people can be grumpy. But I worked for years at an ice cream parlor and LOVED it! #jobsatisfaction #engagement #careerchange

Here’s why this experience really hit hard: Feeling Humiliated: Being the only one pulled aside in front of a group was incredibly embarrassing. 😰 It’s never easy to face such a situation, especially when you’re dealing with anxiety. Uber/Lyft: You are unemployed looking for a job. You are temporarily driving for Lyft or Uber to make some money in the meantime. Many people would feel embarrassed or ashamed to do this. But mindset is everything: 1. If a future employer asks you about this Uber/Lyft job, you can say you have a strong work ethic. 2. And that you also like to stay busy. 3. And that you are not going to feel bad about working and making money. You have to pay your bills. You may have a family to support. 4. And you have too much pride in yourself not to. If these words don’t gain you a future employer’s admiration, then those employers aren’t worth working for. But here is really how important mindset is to your job search… I’m not sure if Uber or Lyft will allow this but have a sign inside your car mentioning that you are looking for a job. The sign could mention job titles, companies, and industries you are interested in. Potentially dozens of passengers will see your sign every day. And they could ask you about it if they were curious. Just imagine: Networking with total strangers, and neither of you needs to feel weird about it. Just having a casual 10/15-minute conversation during a car ride. The magic of casual exposure. And it’s the passenger’s choice whether to bring up the subject or not. You could talk about nothing. Or you can even talk about something else-- sports, weather, the traffic. But again, human nature. If a passenger sees your sign, 9 times out of 10 they will ask you about it. If you’re going to be stuck in a car ride together, why not use the opportunity to your advantage. You could even have your business cards in a pouch next to the sign. Sort of like giving out a very short version of your resume. Passengers may not even talk with you about your job search. But they could still take one of your business cards out of kindness and a show of support.  Later on when they take your business card out of their pocket, it might remind them of a lead or some info they had heard recently that they can pass along to you. Or they might pass your card along to someone else who might be able to help you. And if your passengers have sympathy for you, they will give you a larger tip! It’s human nature.

Even the best job in the world is still work. Confession: I worked full-time for an adult kickball league. For 3 years. I flew all over the U.S., running leagues and tournaments - there were 20,000 players every year! But honestly, I still didn’t feel passionate about the work. The job was a blast and the people were awesome, but even still: - The pay was incredibly low. - I didn’t feel like I was growing professionally. - The daily tasks became repetitive and monotonous. - The work didn’t align with my long-term career goals. - The job lacked the challenge I needed to stay engaged. The perks were fun, the travel was great, and I developed as a leader. Plus I loved my coworkers - they were some of the most amazing people I’ve ever met. But the WORK itself? Not so much. Around that time, I started my first company. Then I finally understood what it was like to be passionate about what I was doing, every day. When your 𝗷𝗼𝗯 aligns with your values, skills, and interests, you’ve found yourself a career.
