Friday was the last day of term for many young Londoners - also one of the hottest days of the year. As their peers finished school at lunchtime and headed off into a sunny afternoon, it was inspiring to see so many talented and ambitious young people at their "Graduation" from City, University of London's inaugural Lord Mayor & Liveries' Future Professionals Summer School. Welcomed into the cool and historic The Tallow Chandlers' Company's Hall, we were greatly honoured the Lord Mayor of London Professor Michael Mainelli presided. The Liveries have been working to assure the City of London can access the #talent it needs for #business #practice and the #professions to thrive for, in many cases, hundreds of years. Speaking with the young people at the Summer School, it was access to #professional people, #expert #career #advice and prompts to imagine their futures they valued most. I doubt much has changed! Many brilliant colleagues and inspiring #student ambassadors of City, University of London contributed to launching the Summer School and the support of the City of London Corporation and the Liveries has been invaluable. We hope the resounding #success of the programme will be a platform for further #growth. St Clare’s celebrated yet another year of incredible GCSE results with an overall pass rate of 100%. Excellence was demonstrated within the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics) related subjects with 100% A*/B in Chemistry, Physics and Computer Science, and 100% A*/C in Biology, Maths, Art and Graphic Communication. Excellence was also achieved with 100% A*/B in Business Studies and Geography, and 100% A*/C in PE. Almost 53% of grades were A*/A compared to the UK national average of 19% (secondary schools) and 48% (independent schools). 

🗻The challenge 🗻: many incoming doctoral students lacking the critical thinking and writing skills necessary to excel in their programs. At the READS Lab at Harvard University’s inaugural summer institute, districts dove deep into the research and practice of the Model of Reading Engagement (MORE), an elementary science and social studies program that builds schemas and improves academic achievement. How to write a scholarship letter of recommendation.

It is anachronistic to ‘police’ freedom. Academic freedom is a scary dangerous idea for authoritarian hierarchical organisations but it is also the locus of genesis of fresh ideas, invention, innovation. Quite obviously discipline boundaries and epistemologies need to be porous in modern striving for inter/trans/multidisciplinary collaboration, creativity, and research.
