Came across this "US Sports Streaming 2024" report from EMARKETER, and wanted to share some of interesting learnings that stuck with me. 1. The Rise of Digital Sports Viewership For the first time, digital live sports viewers have overtaken traditional TV audiences. By the end of 2024, there will be 105.3 million digital sports viewers in the US, a number projected to grow to 127.4 million by 2027. Streaming platforms like Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, and Peacock are capitalizing on this trend by expanding their sports offerings. Why it matters: Streaming services are using sports not just to attract subscribers but to reduce churn, making sports a critical piece of their content strategy. The inclusion of major leagues such as the NBA, NFL, and even niche sports on platforms like Roku and DAZN ensures diverse options for fans. Digital platforms are redefining accessibility, but with only 7% of NFL games exclusive to streaming in 2024, traditional TV still plays a significant role.
