🌍 Exploring key themes for the future of agriculture: highlights from Agricultural Film Europe 2024 🌱 We recently had the pleasure of attending #AgriculturalFilmEurope, a significant event held at the World Trade Center in Barcelona, Spain. It was a great opportunity for professionals deeply involved in the agricultural sector, fostering collaboration and advancing developments. The initiative's foundation lies in the significance of exchanging knowledge and fostering industry connections to shape the future of sustainable agriculture and ensure global food security. Anticipating the growth of the global greenhouse horticulture market, there is an urgent need to extend cropping seasons sustainably to meet the demands of a growing population. Additionally, protecting crops from adverse weather conditions and pests remains a paramount concern, propelling the demand for innovative greenhouse solutions. Discussions revolved around key themes such as market dynamics, emerging regulations, advancements in raw materials, film extrusion technologies, recycling efforts, and effective pest control methods. 🔚 🙏 Feeling very grateful as we've wrapped up the CropLife Europe Annual Conference, Envisioning Tomorrow’s Agriculture: Building the toolbox #AgInnovation. Over the past two days, it has become abundantly clear that the future of #agriculture is about the policies we enact, the innovations we embrace, and the knowledge we share. Empowering our 👨🌾 farmers 👩🌾 demands an outcome-based policy framework that should not only support diverse agricultural value chains but also respect the unique differences across our regions and countries. Such an approach doesn't just bolster the resilience of our agricultural sector; it enhances its #sustainability, #productivity, and #competitiveness. Strengthening the performance of 🇪🇺 agriculture requires a Collective Agriculture Policy #CAP that embraces every farming approach. 🔬 Encouraging uptake and training in R&D is crucial for the continued advancement of our sector. We must provide the regulatory certainty necessary for such investments, creating an environment where #innovation thrives and flourishes. As we look to the future 🔮 let us collaborate to forge a policy framework that empowers, an innovation ecosystem that fortifies, and a research and development culture that propels us forward. 🗣 Our international #team met today to discuss the technical aspect of the project, specifically the data to be collected and how it will be integrated into the #Oenotraceplatform. 💻 On the screenshot you can see the exatrek interface with the tractor usage, showing the monitored fuel consumption, CO2 emissions and working hours. This can be used to generate data to account for machine emissions in the carbon balance model of the project. 🚜 Digital Agriculture Group – Geisenheim University is now responsible for collecting data on machine use during the cultivation phase of winegrowing, which will be provided to the Beia Consult International partner for the platform developed for the project. 📍 So sign up to our page to keep updated on how we progress. We are excited to share the work of the LIFE Natural Agro project, an extraordinary initiative that brings together researchers from Italy, France, and Portugal to promote sustainable agricultural practices! 𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬: Field Experiments: From Piedmont to Tuscany, and from Champagne to Alenquer, we observe plants in real-world environments. Laboratory Experiments: In our labs, we control variables precisely for accurate and innovative data. This dual approach helps us understand how to optimize natural plant extracts for managing plant diseases while reducing copper usage. 𝐋𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞: The next phase of trials in 2025 will be crucial for confirming the efficacy of these natural treatments and refining the formulations. By continuing to reduce the agricultural sector’s dependence on copper, the project aims to protect both the environment and agricultural productivity, ultimately contributing to the European Union’s broader sustainability goals. The next week, Eima International will take place and my research group will showcase his latest activities.   𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁 𝘂𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗘𝗜𝗠𝗔 𝗗𝗘𝗦𝗞 Stop by our stand to discover our tool for machine profiling and analysing tractor fleets KPIs that have developed over the last 4 years. We have worked hard, listening to farmers, and addressing their challenges to effective tractor management. Moreover, it would be a pleasure for us to hear your issues about ag. machiery (like, research, product development, training, field validation, etc.). Your feedbacks will help us align our work with the needs of stakeholders as we believe that university growth thrives on collaboration.   𝗘𝗜𝗠𝗔 𝗖𝗔𝗠𝗣𝗨𝗦 I will give a seminar titled "From data to action: results of three years of monitoring of agricultural machinery". It will take place novembre 6th at 4 PM i room 1 at the EIMA Extend padillion. I'll be sharing KPIs from our monitoring fleet of tractors with some results highlighted in the figure below reporting the cost per hour with tractor nominal power. This cost consider all the cost drivers using the Activity Based Costing approach. For your reference, compare this cost with the ones reported in [2].   𝗝𝗼𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 DATA-BUS project meeting On Nov. 7th, at 10.30 in the Azzurra Room, Congress Center [1], we will hold a dedicated meeting for stakeholders focused on selecting indicators for sustainable farming.
