This is diabetes, but everyone's diabetes story is different! 14th of November is World #Diabetes Day. I don't want to speak about the medical aspects of this situation, but I want to share one of the good videos of a campaign by Diabetes UK which was released three years ago. It's real, to the point, inclusive and impressive! Diabetes is a serious and complex condition, and reducing its challenges or the reasons behind its development can lead to harmful stigma. Watch this video and don't forget "Know diabetes, Fight diabetes".

Every year leading up to National Diabetes Month (November), I brace myself for adverts from companies that continue to ride on the negative narrative of diabetes. The stigma and fear attached to diabetes is loud and clear and adverts and educational posters that highlight only the negative aspects of diabetes are adding to this. Yes it’s important to create awareness of the long term complications but I believe that it’s equally as important to show that if people living with diabetes manage their glucose levels, they can live long and healthy lives. So how do we change the diabetes narrative? We start to rethink adverts and posters like the below… How would I change this advert? November Diabetes Awareness Month Did you know that well managed glucose levels can reduce your risk of vision problems and blindness? If you are living with diabetes, it’s important to get your eyes checked annually. Book your appointment with us today! #diabetes #diabetesstigma #diabetesadvocacy
