With a whopping 181 titles available, it's clear why 38,000 Playdate users have purchased games, and about 32,000 are still enjoying Season One games. 🔥 Demigods Rejoice! What Is Cozy Gaming? 🎀 Cozy games are a relatively new game genre/type. They help players to relax. There is no FOMO, time pressure, or violence inside this game. Typical for cozy games to have nature or farming topics. And beautiful visuals. The most famous cozy games are Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing: New Horizons. This photo was taken during the last Game Habitat Playtest Session in Malmö. Around half of the games I saw/played were cozy games! New trend? Especially among small indie or solo devs. The growth of its popularity means that people face lots of anxiety nowadays and they are looking for relaxation and calmness 😌 Players say that cozy games can help with mental well-being. Yooooo Joe! 🇺🇸 One of my favorite games of 2022 was TMNT Shredder's Revenge and I expect this new retro game, GI Joe Rise of Cobra, will be one of my favorites for 2024. This video was promoted on IGN Entertainment and has me very excited to play as Rock'n'Roll and Snake Eyes. I like the use of classic 80's and 90's licenses and pairing them with retro gameplay for two big reasons: 🎮 These games are super fun on console controllers. These are the types of games I grew up playing on NES and SNES and Genesis so seeing them find their place in modern gaming is a big win for me. I might prefer shooters on PC but these games were made for a controller. 🤠 I can play them with my kids, which makes for a fun introduction to an IP that I know and love but might be less familiar to them. Plus, it's a collaborative experience so we get to win together. I know licensed IP is never easy in gaming, but pairing a well made retro arcade game with classic 80's and 90's licenses is a great way to promote multigenerational gaming! #gamepublishing #gamedevelopment
