Thrilled to have attended VivaTech 2024 in Paris, Europe's biggest startup and tech event! This incredible experience was filled with inspiring moments and invaluable insights. I had the unique opportunity to participate in a Q&A session with none other than Elon Musk, where we discussed the future of technology and innovation. He also emphasized the importance of regulating AI to ensure it serves humanity responsibly and ethically. Listening to Bernard Arnault's perspective on how entrepreneurs should emulate world-class athletes was truly eye-opening. His emphasis on discipline, resilience, and continuous improvement provides valuable lessons for all business professionals. Eric Schmidt's prediction regarding call-to-action being the “next big thing” was interesting while his thoughts regarding AI regulation are definitely food for thought. Engaging with so many incredible startups and walking almost 60,000 steps in those three days alone was both exhausting and exhilarating! Europe's thriving startup ecosystem, particularly the impressive Paris tech scene, showcased immense potential and innovation. Here's to building a better future together! #VivaTech #Innovation #TechForGood #AIEthics #LegalTech

Thank you to Max ( Masoud ) Mirgoli and team for the warm welcome to #ITFworld2024. It was a pleasure discussing #deeptech with Paul Boudre and Ann Mettler, facilitated by Peter Vanbekbergen. Insights were shared on European strengths, challenges, and growth opportunities for deep tech startups. Europe has what it takes to become a global hub for Deep Tech excellence. Some of the most valuable companies in Europe have spun out from academia - BioNTech SE, Climeworks, Darktrace, and Oxford Nanopore Technologies. Scaling in deep tech requires patient capital, a robust ecosystem, and strategic partners for go-to-market. Global ambition is key as it is a winner-take-all game for startups building critical infrastructure. Levers to unlock the potential for deep tech in Europe include: ‣ Strengthening talent/excellence clusters ‣ Harmonizing spinout terms and reduce bureaucracy ‣ Encouraging more entrepreneurs to move into deep tech ‣ Increasing LP base and institutional investors participation ‣ Shifting government and corporations to become customers ‣ Reviewing innovation regulations I welcome your thoughts and more conversations offline.

Post-TechChill vibes. 🧘♀️ This Wednesday, the "AI-mazing Chill 🤖🎉💡" event, organized by VNTRS, Random Ventures, Beamline Accelerator and the Estonian Business School, will take place on April 24th in Tallinn🇪🇪. Founders should attend to refine their AI implementation strategies and network with industry leaders. Notably, Shahab Anbarjafari and Risto Maasing will be there, giving presentations and available for discussions afterward. Investors will find it worthwhile to meet founders and learn about #AI tools for investment management. We are also looking forward to welcoming members of our cozy startup community. The agenda is as follows 👇 First, Shahab and Risto will speak, followed by announcements from partners, and then we'll simply network. If you haven't already marked this event on your calendar, do so now. Our whole team Indrek Aneth Krista Anton and me is looking forward to seeing you on Wednesday.

Scaling Deep Tech - An insightful session hosted by Cicada Innovations x Tech 23 and Monash University. The discussion centered on the challenges Deep Tech ventures face when scaling, some of which are also common across other industries:: 1. Balancing intuitive vs. informed decision-making. 2. Building a winning team by hiring senior talent first. 3. Finding a supportive community. More specific challenges for Deep Tech include attracting capital due to longer return timelines and protecting breakthrough ideas while engaging early with stakeholders. My key takeaways: 1. Align with investors who share your values. 2. Hire senior talent first, then build the team. 3. Lean on your network: "It takes a village to raise a ScaleUp." 4. Plan meticulously but stay adaptable. 5. Always engage customers early. Thanks to Emerald Scofield and the panel for your valuable insights!

Very much enjoyed my first #nytechweek event hosted by @industrybloc at HOF Capital's stunning offices: https://lnkd.in/gx3T9Nny Some impressions: + Deep tech VCs are in the business of building generational companies, and actively looking for founders with transformational ideas and solutions - i.e. the hard stuff. + There are roles for different-sized VCs in the ecosystem. They bring different perspectives and attributes. Smaller VCs may be the better partners for testing the tech – but larger VCs may be the better partners for delivering exits. + Founders need to be able to demonstrate a clear pathway and a sophisticated thought process for their companies’ capital journey. + Bringing in expertise early, whether that is through employees or external advisers (or a combination of both), will help founders' engagements with investment partners down the track. + When choosing an investor, founders should consider the degree of staying power / permanence of that investor. Would they continue investing – and if not, could that (wrongly) signal risk in the business? Would that investor’s support be ongoing if there are personnel movements? + Deep tech VCs are excited about the impact of AI, and the entirely new infrastructure opportunities that could be created as a result. + Deep tech VCs are also buoyant about the opportunities that remain for “traditional” software and hardware propositions – including robotic solutions for healthcare, bio-tech, manufacturing, logistics / supply chain. Energy tech and climate tech (including nuclear fusion technology) are also “hot”. + The US Government is becoming more deliberate about its efforts to engage with the early-stage ecosystem, because they are starting to see real benefits of doing so. Would the New Zealand Government follow suit? #DentonsVentureTechnology
