🔔 Important news: 🔔 Special issue on #Innovation #Policy in Industrial and Corporate Change coordinated by Jakob Edler (Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI), Silvia Massini (The University of Manchester) and myself (Dipartimento di Scienze Economiche at Università degli Studi di Bergamo), has a new deadline ❗ 28 November 2924 ❗ The purpose of this ICC special issue is to revisit existing #theoretical models of #InnovationPolicy with a critical and contemporary eye, to understand the effectiveness of past models and their usefulness in the current and future economic settings. A particular focus will be placed on research addressing new conceptual issues arising from the socio-economic post-pandemic realities, trade de-coupling between large economic powers, increased attention to firm and countries' resilience, as well as empirical evidence on the impact of recent innovation and industrial policies, to address the dual - digital and green - transformation. We invite contributions utilizing new #conceptual frameworks and paradigms, #methods and (combinations of) units of analysis, to initiate or contribute to #new discourses and controversies in innovation policy with #original and #provocative #research. The papers will be handled as they are submitted and will be published online once the reviewing process has completed. They will be collected in the special issue once everything is ready. 📣 Submission instructions: 📣 when you submit your paper, please select “Continental Office” as the handling editorial office. You also need to write the name of the special issue: “Innovation Policy”. How might fear both enable and constrain the pursuit of novel technologies in incumbent firms? What role does the fear of failure and the fear of missing out play in an organisation's attempt to innovate? These are a couple of the questions that our speaker, Dr Chris Golding Lecturer in Innovation and Strategy at Alliance Manchester Business School, University of Manchester, and an Associate Fellow of the Ministry of Defence’s Development, Concepts and Doctrine Centre (DCDC) will explore during our upcoming workshop on June 13th. NEW PAPER: What is the role of politics in the formulation of mission-oriented and transformative innovation policies? I discuss this (so far understudied) topic in a short paper just out in Science and Public Policy. I identify four areas where the dynamics of power and forces that shape it are very relevant to mission-oriented and transformative innovation policies: 1) the temporality of power, 2) its management and distribution, 3) the capacity to exercise it, 4) how it reflects the pluralistic nature of our societies. These dimensions taken together define a series of political conditions that must be in place for mission-oriented policies to be successfully pursued. Main takeaway: the observation of how these four dimensions are shifting in many advanced economies suggests the emergence of critical bottlenecks and obstacles to the future development of innovation policies aimed at societal challenges. In some cases, these barriers could lead to the abandonment or non-pursuit of such policies altogether. Link to the paper: https://lnkd.in/ed8vdkeh

Unleashing the power of diverse boards for innovation! This article explores how formal and informal social structures can amplify the benefits of deep diversity - such as knowledge and experience - while mitigating the challenges of superficial diversity, such as gender or ethnicity. Drawing on insights from the board-CEO dynamics of leading companies and global diversity mandates, it reveals actionable strategies for fostering inclusion and driving innovation. Discover how to optimise diversity for real impact! A must-read for those passionate about leadership, governance and progress!
A major objective here at the Corporate Governance Centre is bringing together academic research alongside practitioner insights. In furtherance of that goal, we will bring forth research articles from our esteemed faculty. In a recent paper, Prof Guoli Chen et al researched the effects of deep and surface level diversity and formal and informal structures affect innovation. The authors tested their hypotheses 42,432 firm year observations from 2000 to 2019. For more details, visit this website to read the entire paper: https://lnkd.in/gfE6Sw_q To know more and keep up with Prof Chen’s research, visit his page at: https://lnkd.in/g5D2rFGj #boarddiversity #boardresearch #insead #corporategovernance
