Ahead of meetings with the automotive industry this week, UK transport secretary Louise Haigh has reiterated the government's commitment to the ZEV mandate 👉 https://lnkd.in/e6_hcQ6j While the mandate will not be weakened, some 'flexibilities' could be made on the back of these meetings - with some manufacturers projected to fall short of the ZEV target for 2024. #ElectricDrives | #ElectricVehicles | #EV | #Emobility | #Sustainability | #AutomotiveIndustry | #CarSales | #UnitedKingdom | #ElectricCars

New figures show that sales of new electric vehicles (EVs) hit a new high in November. Over 25% of all new car registrations were electric, according to New AutoMotive. That's a 51% increase compared with the same month last year. The promising performance of the UK’s EV market means that the car industry is on the road to comfortably meet the Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) mandate - which requires manufacturers to sell a rising proportion of less polluting electric vehicles. The ZEV mandate credit surplus has almost doubled and no manufacturer will pay fines this year. This is despite recent lobbying from the industry for a weakening of the rules and negative spin from parts of the press that seem intent on making electric powered vehicles a culture war issue. It's welcome that the government wants to work with the car industry to increase EV take-up and boost UK jobs - and will be reviewing how the mandate can do that better. But it's vital that it maintains the ambition and trajectory of the ZEV mandate. This regulation is one of the UK’s most effective tools for cutting carbon emissions, meeting our targets under the Paris Agreement and keeping the UK in the global race to cleaner, quieter, cutting edge electric vehicles. #Electricvehicles #ZEVmandate #climateaction

‼️ European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA)‼️ Brussels, 19 September 2024 - 'A continuous trend of shrinking market share for battery electric cars in the EU sends an extremely worrying signal to industry and policymakers'😱 Indeed it does - it also sends an extremely worrying signal to EV advocates, investors, and champions of the managed transition to electrified vehicles... It's called a banquet of consequences - consequences of sustained anti-EV rhetoric, broken promises, tardy and bureaucratic charging industry support, and automotive industry inertia. Meanwhile...over in China. 🤔 My suggestion? If it comes to significant fines for failure to comply with EV mandates, then pool that money into a ubiquitous public charging infrastructure. Ironically, mirroring the Volkswagen Group's multi billion dollar investment into Electrify America that came as a consequence of Dieselgate. We've been kicking the can down the road for far too long - it's time now to pick it up! 🥫 #automotive #electricvehicles #innovation #climatecrisis

The ZEV Mandate: what is it, and how will it impact you and your fleet? 🤔 At the beginning of the year, the UK Government set out targets for car and van manufacturers to hit 100% zero emission vehicle sales by 2035. Wondering what this might mean for your business? We've laid out all the facts and figures for you here! 👉 https://ow.ly/hEXQ50SAajq #ZEVMandate #ZeroEmissionVehicles #ElectricVehicles #FleetManagement

The recent calls to weaken the UK’s ZEV mandate are concerning. Whilst I appreciate the automotive industry faces challenges, I agree with Vicky Read, diluting these targets would undermine the significant progress made and jeopardise the UK’s position as a global leader in EV technology. A strong ZEV mandate is essential to drive innovation, attract investment, and create high-value jobs. This is a test of government nerve and it's time to demonstrate its commitment to a sustainable future by holding firm on these crucial policies. Let's see. #emobility #electricvehicles #ZEVmandate #UKPolicy #automotive

As we reach General Election day, the possible reintroduction of a 2030 zero emission target is front of mind for us at AlixPartners. Our 2024 Global Automotive Outlook https://lnkd.in/eMSzzGMN reveals that only 44% of new UK light vehicle sales are expected to be zero emission EVs by 2030. We know that BEVs face some serious hurdles in the UK, with cost, charging infrastructure, charging time and battery life ranking high on the list with consumers. It is going to be vital for the industry to prioritise making efficiencies to tackle battery electric vehicle costs, but the next Government would also be well advised to focus on vehicle subsidies for net zero vehicles. My colleague Nick Parker discussed this with the Telegraph yesterday: https://lnkd.in/eZeY_84r. Do get in touch if it would be helpful to discuss the findings of this year’s Automotive Outlook in more detail. #zeroemission #2030target #electricvehicles #globalautomotiveoutlook #AlixPartners Andrew Bergbaum

Department for Transport (DfT) intends to restore 2030 ban for petrol and diesel vehicles in the UK. A very interesting story developing with DfT intending to move the 2035 ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel vehicles in the UK back to 2030. When the last Government moved the date to 2035, there was an industry concern that that move slowed down the sale of EVs, which in turn also saw a corresponding slow down in EV charging points in the public arena. Rumours were abound that the new Government were planning to move the date back to 2030, and it was a pledge in Labour's election campaign, but nothing was mentioned in the King's Speech. But if this story is true that it is going ahead, then this could be exactly what the EV industry needs to re-energise sales and take up, and would also support the ZEV Mandate stipulations for OEMs to produce a certain percentage of zero emission vehicles each year, starting at 22% in 2024 rising in stages to 80% by 2030. The only missing detail is when, because the DfT says that it intends to publish further details in due course. Is vital that European policy makers can see the wood from the tree and that delaying the transition to Electric Vehicles pass 2035 is not the rigth thing to do and instead of helping the European motor industry, it will be very damaging, as it will actually make Chinese manufacturers even stronger, well stablished and dominant in the market. https://lnkd.in/e2Qd2EA6

⚡️UK Gov brings Zero-Emission Vehicle mandate into effect⚡️ Big win for the UK this morning as the House of Commons approves the ZEV mandate - but what does this actually look like? 🎯 Targets for 80% of new cars and 70% of new vans to be zero-emission by 2030 ⬆️ The plan starts with targets of 22% in 2024, increasing each year progressively 💯 To reach the ultimate goal of 100% by 2035 ⬇ EV car prices should fall as manufacturers push sales (to avoid hefty fines!) ✅ Increased investment into electric cars, batteries and infrastructure Major manufacturers such as BMW Group and Nissan Motor Corporation have already committed to significant investment in the UK, and this mandate should welcome further confidence. Certainly an ambitious move, with significant work for both OEMs and the EV infrastructure roll-out. Time will tell but either way, it's great to see the UK take action towards a zero-emission future of the transport industry. #electricvehicles #electrification #futuremobility #zeroemission #ZEV

"A continuous trend of shrinking market share for battery electric cars in the EU sends an extremely worrying signal to industry and policymakers. European auto manufacturers, united in ACEA, therefore call on the EU institutions to come forward with urgent relief measures before new CO2 targets for cars and vans come into effect in 2025. Additionally, we urge the European Commission to bring forward the CO2 regulation reviews for light-duty and heavy-duty vehicles, currently scheduled for 2026 and 2027 respectively, to 2025." 👉 Read the press release here: https://lnkd.in/dnZka45U #ECGNews #automotive #EVs
