It’s Heritage Careers Week and we are joining in awareness raising of the breadth of roles and range of pathways available within the heritage sector 🏰📚
Meet Karen 👋
Karen, a first-year BA (Hons) Archaeology student with UHI North, West, and Hebrides, shares her inspiring journey back into academics after a 20-year break. Based in Glasgow, Karen studies fully online through the Stornoway campus and finds the mix of learning styles and strong support from her lecturers invaluable.
🌄 Why UHI? “I initially completed the access course which gave me confidence to study again after a
twenty-year break. I had such a good experience during the access course that UHI felt like the obvious choice. I also appreciated that I could learn fully online”
📚 Favourite Course Highlights? "The variety of topics in just one year has been brilliant! And seeing a good mark after tackling a tricky essay is so rewarding!"
➕ Support from Lecturers? “Every lecturer has their own style—some are fantastic storytellers, some really challenge you, and others are great at getting the class involved. I've had prompt replies to questions, even on a Friday night!”
🌱 Advice for Future Students: “Returning to study was nerve-wracking, but it’s the best decision I’ve made. Don’t let age hold you back—there’s a fantastic mix of perspectives, and the support is incredible!”
