"I want you to do it quickly, Abi, but I don't want you to kill yourself" That was a wee exchange I had with my client this morning. I'm writing a brochure for her, and she has a fairly tight turnaround. I offered to work late tonight to get it done. She told me tomorrow would be fine. She's a great client who has empathy, is reasonable, and understands that there's a world outside of the stuff she wants done. I know this, and yet I still feel the people-pleaser jitters at times. I've worked with lovely clients like Emma for years and years now. I'm 49 and officially a grown-up (wait, am I?!). But the past creeps up from time to time. I want my clients to love the work I do and sometimes forget that not all clients are b*stards. I want to keep my clients happy and sometimes forget that not all clients are like some of the a$$ hat bosses I once had. I want to do great work, which takes time. And sometimes, I forget that this is what my clients want, too. So, what is the point of this post? Good question... I suppose it's a reminder to those of you who feel the people-pleaser squeeze at times - you don't have to knock your pan in. Take your time. Do your best work. Breathe. Unclench that jaw! And it's a reminder to anyone who needs it that your freelancers and contractors are doing the best they can. Be nice. You have no idea how long the effects can last if you're not.

Make your clients' lives easier. Period. Yesterday, I was on a call with a client who stressed how much he valued freelancers who makes his lives easy. Because let's face it: Content teams have jam-packed schedules. They have a lot on their plate already yet limited resources at their disposal. Often times, they work beyond scope and at odd hours. Why? Because they need to generate results. They know content is the first thing that gets slashed. Amidst their hectic schedules, they want to work with people who don't really need a lot of direction. Who don't constantly buzz them with irrelevant questions. Who make their lives easier. Producing high-quality work is the bare minimum. Go the extra mile by being reliable, submitting your work on time, answering your clients' concerns in time. Keep the lines open. Make it super-easy to work with you. That's how you can stand out.

🚨 The Freelancer’s Worst Nightmare: When Chaos Strikes! 🚨 As freelancers, we juggle multiple hats—designer, marketer, project manager, accountant... you name it. Be nice to your brain! As freelancers, our creativity is our livelihood. When we're overwhelmed with work, it can be easy to forget how absolutely essential it is to engage in the activities that keep us in an imaginative headspace. Instead of forcing yourself through a task when you're feeling drained, call a time out. Take that walk, have a nap, read some fiction ... whatever fills your cup. The quality of your work depends on it. #freelancelife #worklifebalance #solopreneur #weareuncompany

You are an emerging freelancer who’s been on a 9-5 routine for years before venturing on your own but now your clients have become your 9-5... Relatable? Stuck in a loop of overbooking yourself fueled by the fear of future financial stability. But freelance is meant to offer freedom, right? It’s easy to justify the hectic schedule by the need to pay the bills. Once more, you find yourself experiencing burnout, this time self-inflicted. 😰 Perhaps it’s time to take on less, for higher rates. Perhaps it’s time to look for different clients. But it could also be finding that extra half hour before client projects for something fun and purely for your own joy. And there are many great benefits to that. Do you have a creative outlet? Read the rest on how passion projects prevent burnout and can potentially help grow your career in my first blogpost below! 💡 👇 https://lnkd.in/ein2UZHy P.S: Yes! I paint murals for fun! 😊 Although it's not my main line of work as a textile and print designer I do take on commissioned mural projects from time to time as well. #passionprojects #creativeburnout #hobbies #personalgrowth #freelancelife #freelancetips #muralist #creativity

FIVE TIME MANAGEMENT TECHNIQUES FOR FREELANCERS If you want to manage your time as a freelancer, do these: 1. Make a to-do list: When you set the tone of the day by writing down tasks, you won't forget anything in a hurry. 2. Set clear goals: When you have a clear picture of what you want to accomplish each day, you won't be distracted by shiny objects. 3. Break tasks: Chop tasks into smaller pieces so you can hit your targets. 4. Use a timer: Jumping into a task without any breaks is a recipe for disaster. Plan to work for a certain amount of time. Then, take a short break. 5. Minimize distractions: Turn off notifications. Find a quiet place to work. If you do these, you'll be sure to win the day. Once upon a time. When I was craving new projects and clients to work with... I was approached by someone who not only paid less but also did not value the work. 👉He thought the work was not demanding, assuming it was just community management and posting. However, as we all know, this takes most of the time and requires careful thought and creativity. 👉He paid less, which was unfair for the work I was doing. 👉He showed authority over the work, saying, "If you do this work for only XX amount, then I'll pay you more." Sure, there are many freelancers who opt for such options and are even ready to work for FREE. Sometimes, we have to make the right decisions and do justice for ourselves and our work. Because we all know time is everything, and if we are giving your brand our time and results, then we can also expect the respect and value of our work from you. But here’s what I could never understand: Why are we always judged on the prices we charge but not the value we provide? Remember always: 👉You need to value yourself first. 👉You need to learn how to leave something that is not justified for you and others. 👉You need to set boundaries with your clients. 👉 You need to speak up for the injustice. If something is meant for you, it will find you anyway. Just be positive and love what you do! 🫰🏻 #valued #personalbranding #socialmedia #marketingservices
