This week is Computer Science Education Week (#CSEdWeek) and it’s meant to be a week that inspires K-12 students to learn computer science and advocates for equitable access to computer science education. From an early age, computer science has been more than just a subject to me—it’s been a calling. One of my most unforgettable “magic moments” came at 13, when I programmed a system that transformed my father’s insurance business, moving it online and eliminating manual inefficiencies that once stole precious family time. That project didn’t just change his business, it changed my life. It meant more dinners together, more shared laughter, and more memories with my dad (pictured below). That was the moment I realized technology could do more than solve problems; it could bring people closer. Since then, I’ve been driven to harness technology’s power to create meaningful, positive disruption for others. This empowerment should extend to every youth, and we must remain focused on helping students “find their magic moment” through technology. I believe one of the most important educational priorities is to encourage curiosity and foster greater interest in computer science among our youth. Our ability to build and deliver equitable, inclusive computer science education programs is vital to our future economy and business innovation. I hope this week inspires you to connect with and advocate for computer science education within your communities.
