Life Sciences are brilliant on their own. All the research, new scientific findings, and work done by motivated lab teams set a pathway for us to understand better how everything becomes life from the smallest molecules. BUT the full potential of science is lost, if the new facts, findings, and ideas only stay in research papers, lab notebooks, or scientists' heads. You and I can change that. Let’s start by stepping out of the lab, hanging the lab coats, and for a few days brainstorming how scientific work and knowledge can be turned into products, devices, and innovation for everybody to feel and be better. 👩🔬 Join us, BSV Ventures, International Conference The COINS, and Vilnius University Faculty of Medicine, on December 2nd. First big thing out of the gate for the Metascience Unit! Are you interested in the impacts of AI on R&D? How we define and measure the impact of science? How can we best support and develop research talent? What is the best way to enable breakthrough discoveries? Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, UK Research and Innovation and Open Philanthropy are jointly investing up to £5m in metascience research to understand what works for the R&D system and how we can improve it. This funding will support ambitious metascience research projects that will generate robust evidence and actionable insights for decision makers in government, funding bodies, and research organisations. https://lnkd.in/ekKq2_QS

Popular seminar… 🔬 𝗟𝗨𝗠𝗜𝗔 (Luleå Material Imaging and Analysis) recently hosted a lunch seminar on advanced microanalysis. Over 70 participants from research and industry attended to learn about state-of-the-art techniques for analysing different types of materials. 🔬 𝗟𝗨𝗠𝗜𝗔 acts as a hub for the technical analytical capacity at Luleå University of Technology and this experimental environment is a creative meeting place for researchers, students, and companies. 🔬 𝗟𝗨𝗠𝗜𝗔 is expanding with two new WISE-funded laboratories —that will be unique to at least the Nordic countries— and collaborating with the research group in machine elements to optimize microanalytical operations at the university. WISE is an initiative from the Wallenberg foundation, focusing on materials science for sustainability. 📆 The seminar was part of a series of activities aimed at promoting research collaborations and spreading knowledge about material analysis. More seminars are planned, stay tuned. 🔗 Link to news flash in the comments. Erik Nilsson Fredrik Forsberg Mathis Warlo #LUMIA #WISE #microanalysis

Last week, I👨🔬participated in the "2024 Edition of 3MT - Three Minute Thesis", a contest between PhD students from Flemish-Belgian Universities organized by Ghent University and founded by The University of Queensland. I pitched my PhD project as "Botanical biofiltration 🍃 for indoor air quality 🏠 and health 😷," in which I synthesized in a 3-minute pitch how the action of plants and associated bacteria (bioremediation) 🦠 can be optimized to degrade highly carcinogenic volatile organic compounds like benzene and formaldehyde from the indoor air and keep us safe. This is possible by combining experimental 🧪 and mathematical/CFD approaches 💻 . The indoor air purification sector has the opportunity to transition and combine biological air treatment as a more sustainable and robust technology that can offer additional benefits like high productivity and happiness. It is great to see PhD students carrying out novel and relevant research in various fields of knowledge, but, more importantly, their capacity to communicate scientific findings to non-expert audiences. The latter is a great challenge for scientists.
