🐄 World Milk Day: Spotlight on the Indian Dairy Farmer 🥛 Today, on World Milk Day, let's celebrate the dairy industry, but also acknowledge the challenges faced by Indian dairy farmers. While India is the world's largest milk producer, a reality check reveals a significant disparity between our farmers and their counterparts in developed nations. 🏷️ One of the key concerns is the price disparity. Indian farmers often receive a much lower price for their milk compared to international rates. This meager income makes it difficult for them to invest in better breeds, quality feed, and proper veterinary care. This, in turn, affects milk yield and quality. 🐄 Furthermore, the high cost of cattle feed and fodder significantly eats into their profits. While fodder companies see healthy margins, farmers struggle to break even. This lack of a balanced price structure creates an unsustainable situation. 👉 Empowering farmers through cooperatives and producer companies can help them negotiate better prices and bypass middlemen. 👉 Encouraging the use of technology for better breeding practices, disease management, and efficient fodder production can significantly improve efficiency and profitability. 👉 Implementing minimum support prices and subsidies for cattle feed and fodder can ensure fairer returns for farmers. By addressing these issues, we can create a more robust and equitable dairy sector in India. This World Milk Day, let's commit to working towards a future where our dairy farmers are not just producers, but empowered and thriving business owners. #WorldMilkDay #SupportDairyFarmers

India's dairy industry faces unique challenges that set it apart from other major milk-producing countries. As the largest producer and consumer of dairy products worldwide, India relies heavily on its own milk supply, with a focus on cattle and buffalo milk. However, the industry must address several practical obstacles to increase profits and improve quality. Shortages of quality feed and fodder, unproductive livestock, supply-demand gaps, and shrinking grazing lands restrict dairy production. To offset deficiencies, supplementing with minerals could be a solution, but the high cost of quality feed cuts into profits. Issues like late maturity in native breeds, poor heat detection, lengthening calving intervals, abortion-causing diseases, and nutritional deficiencies hamper breeding and fertility. The industry needs more participative education and training programs on good practices to ensure employee buy-in and safe dairy products. However, securing management commitment poses a challenge. Inadequate veterinary services due to the imbalance between cattle populations and facilities hinder animal healthcare. Lacking vaccination schedules and deworming lead to high calf mortality and disease susceptibility. Unsanitary cattle sheds and milking environments, along with exposure to extreme weather, contribute to mastitis. Unhygienic milk production reduces quality and accelerates spoilage. Dairy farmers struggle to obtain fair milk prices due to declining fat content in crossbred cows' milk and poor marketing and extension services, limiting the appeal of dairying as an occupation. Addressing these challenges is critical to the success and sustainability of India's dairy sector. #IndiaDairy #Sustainability #Agriculture #DairyIndustry #Challenges

Are #milksubsidies and #milkpowder #exportsubsidies truly #sustainable solutions? In #Maharashtra, a similar approach was taken six years ago, yet #dairyfarmers find themselves at the same crossroads today. They are now rejecting the ₹35 milk price, even after a ₹5 subsidy as they want minimum Rs 40 per kgs. Moreover, over two-thirds of processors cannot benefit from the export subsidy as they sell fresh category products. So, who are these #subsidies really for? Spend 5 minutes reading an insightful analysis on how history has repeated itself in just six years. The million-dollar question remains: "Can we expect different results by doing the same things under similar circumstances?"

🥛🌍Happy World Milk Day! Established by the FAO in 2001, June 1st is a day to celebrate the vital role of milk in our diets and the significant contributions of the dairy sector to nutrition, economic development, and sustainable agriculture. As the largest milk producer in the world, India has a lot to be proud of. However, our dairy industry faces several challenges that need attention: 🔬 Breeding and Genetics-We rely heavily on local breeds that yield less milk. Improving genetic quality and infrastructure is essential. 🌾 Feed and Fodder-Quality feed is in short supply and expensive, impacting production efficiency and animal health. 💊 Healthcare and Veterinary Services- Limited access to veterinary care leads to high disease rates among livestock, affecting milk quality. 🚜 Farm Management Practices- Many farmers still use traditional methods. Modernizing these practices through education and training is crucial. ❄️ Infrastructure and Cold Chain-Insufficient systems for milk collection, storage, and transportation lead to high spoilage rates. 📈 Market Access and Pricing-Small-scale farmers struggle to access markets and secure fair prices, often losing out to middlemen. 🌱 Climate Change-Changing weather patterns affect feed availability and water resources, impacting production. 🏛️ Policy and Support- Effective implementation and coordination of supportive policies are vital for the industry's growth. On this World Milk Day, let's acknowledge these challenges and commit to working together—governments, private sector, and research institutions—to create a sustainable and prosperous future for India's dairy industry. #WorldMilkDay #DairyIndustry #Sustainability #Nutrition #EconomicDevelopment #Agriculture #IndiaDairy #MilkProduction

@narendramodi @narendramodi_in Date: 9-11-2024 To, The Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Government of India, New Delhi. Subject: Request for Comprehensive Review of India’s Meat Export Policy Respected Prime Minister Modi Ji, I wish to express my gratitude for your dedication to making India a global leader in sustainable development and ethical values. In light of these principles, I humbly request a review of India’s meat export policy, as it has significant implications on our nation’s livestock resources, rural economy, environment, and cultural values. Key Concerns: 1.Livestock Depletion: Increased slaughter for exports has led to a decline in livestock, affecting rural livelihoods. 2.Agricultural Impact: Meat exports increase dairy and fertilizer costs, destabilizing small farmers. 3.Environmental Damage: Meat processing contributes to water pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. 4.Cultural Values: Meat exports conflict with India’s values of compassion and non-violence. 5.Alternative Opportunities: Promoting dairy, organic farming, and plant-based industries aligns with sustainable growth. Recommendations: • Form a committee to study the impact of meat exports. • Promote eco-friendly industries. • Raise public awareness on ethical consumption. Revisiting this policy will strengthen India’s commitment to sustainability and our timeless values. Your leadership in this regard would be invaluable. Respectfully, Girish Jayantilal Shah Member, Animal Welfare Board of India Managing Trustee, Samast Mahajan 9820020976
