As a long-time basketball enthusiast and a dedicated follower of the National Basketball Association (NBA), I always look forward to the start of a new season. In just a few days, the best league in the world will be back on the court, and I can’t help but feel the same excitement as always. What truly sets the NBA apart from other U.S. sports leagues is its global reach. Compared to the NFL, MLB, or NHL, basketball has proven to be the most exportable American sport. The NBA resonates deeply across continents, from Europe to Asia, thanks to its fast-paced action, universal appeal, and global superstars. Basketball is more than just a game—it’s a cultural phenomenon that connects people worldwide, and the NBA is at the heart of this global movement. With games broadcast in over 200 countries, it’s clear the league’s impact goes far beyond U.S. borders. Here you have some key figures: 🔹 $10 billion in annual revenue, driven by TV rights, merchandise, and sponsorships. 🔹 Teams in the league are valued at an average of $3.85 billion. The Warriors and Lakers are worth over $7 billion! 🔹 The NBA has over 2.5 billion followers worldwide, with a digital presence that reaches 2 billion combined followers across social media. 🔹 Players, now global icons, sign massive contracts. Stephen Curry, for instance, will make $48.1 million this season alone. 🔹 The league is also a huge phenomenon in international markets like China, where their broadcasting deal is estimated to be worth $1.5 billion. And as an appetizer for the season to come, I can’t recommend enough checking out the new Netflix series “Starting 5”. It gives an exciting look into the lives of some of the biggest names in the league and serves as the perfect way to get hyped for what’s ahead this season! #NBA #WhereAmazingHappens #PassionForTheGame #GlobalBusiness #Sports

Did you hear about Unrivaled Basketball yet?! Founded by WNBA stars Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart, this league introduces a 3x3 competitive basketball format for women, played on a smaller, full court. With 30 total initial players, including 9 already announced—all WNBA players—Unrivaled Basketball aims to bring a fresh, dynamic experience to fans. Mirroring the popular 2K game format, which boasts 1.9 million daily players, the league seeks to captivate a wide audience. Additionally, the league will feature a 1v1 tournament in February, fulfilling a long-time wish of many NBA fans. The greatest feature of them all? All 30 initial players will receive equity ownership and salaries expected to be the highest average in women’s sports history. This comes at a crucial time, as the WNBA and the Players Association have the option to opt-out of the current CBA, potentially leading to a lockout until a new agreement is reached. Unrivaled Basketball could serve as a pivotal moment for WNBA players to leverage their position. Looking ahead, the league is set to launch in Miami in 2025, with potential for expansion to other cities. The emphasis on enhancing the spectator experience will likely play a significant role in the league's growth and popularity. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting venture & don’t be late to this party like most were to the WNBA!

In a move that feels almost like the WNBA saying, “Alright, let’s show them how it’s really done,” the new basketball league Unrivaled is set to shake things up with a roster that reads like an all-star team’s dream journal. Lexie Hull, who made waves at Stanford and now lights up the court for the Indiana Fever, has just signed up for Unrivaled’s debut season. Alongside talents like league founders Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart, and headliners like Chelsea Gray, Arike Ogunbowale, Jewell Loyd, and Brittney Griner, the league is stacked. Seriously, it’s starting to look like other leagues might just have to step back, watch, and take notes. A League With a Kick: Meet the Six Teams So, what’s the tea on the teams? In a stylish and intentional twist, Unrivaled has dubbed its franchises with monikers inspired by European soccer. Introducing: the Laces Basketball Club, Mist Basketball Club, Phantom Basketball Club, Lunar Owls Basketball Club, Rose Basketball Club, and the Vinyl Basketball Club. If you’re getting visions of a night out in Miami with a retro disco-meets-court vibe, you’re probably not far off the mark. The vibe is fresh, the names are catchy, and the hype is real. And if you’re wondering, yes, each team’s brand was curated by Doubleday & Cartwright, whose design portfolio includes some of the trendiest projects around. But let’s be honest—this isn’t just any rebranding; this is a full-court press on the concept of basketball culture itself. A Format Shake-Up: 3-on-3 Mayhem Unrivaled is rolling with a fast-paced 3-on-3 format that’s bound to be an instant favorite for fans who crave action and scoring. It’s a full-court game, too, so we’re talking relentless back-and-forth intensity. Imagine all the highlights, the buzzer-beaters, the sassy footwork, and, of course, the “did-they-just-do-that?” moments. It’s basketball meets a high-energy sprint, minus the slow posturing. This is basketball stripped down to its essentials and amped up to the max. Prime Time with TNT Sports TNT Sports has signed on for exclusive media coverage, with Unrivaled set to air over 45 primetime games on Mondays, Fridays, and Saturdays across TNT, truTV, and Max. So, if you were hoping to have a few quiet nights in during the week, well, too bad. Basketball nights are now appointment viewing. According to Luis Silberwasser, TNT’s CEO, Unrivaled represents a fresh opportunity to support top-tier women’s sports, something TNT plans to elevate with a media commitment that will make sure you don’t miss a single jump shot or game-changing pass. And Let’s Talk Streaming for a Second… Live games, highlight reels, in-depth analysis—all of it’s coming to platforms like Bleacher Report and House of Highlights. TNT is pulling out all the stops, even collaborating with Mediapro North America to bring a production quality that promises to make each game look as if it’s streaming

When Taylor Swift attends a Chiefs game, the sports betting volume for Travis Kelce doubles. 📈🏈 In our latest Athleisure edition, we 'follow the money' into the world of sports betting. What's telling is not only how much is wagered, but crucially where those bets are placed and who's doing it: - Prop bets account for 30% of all Super Bowl bets, many barely related to on-field action - Women now comprise 32% of sports bettors, up from 24% in 2019 - The number of women betting on the Super Bowl increased by 51% this year These shifts reflect a broader change, putting the money where the mouth is on sports fan interest, driven by: entertainment, cultural relevance, and personal connections to athletes. For this emerging majority of fans, sports is the core, not the whole. The next cultural moment is becoming more valuable than the next championship. Betting acts as the sports industry's bellwether. To understand where it's headed, we highly recommend following the money, the memes – and ofc, subscribing to Athleisure! Major League Baseball (MLB)'s opening day is tomorrow! - and our PGAV Destinations Destinology Team is putting their sharp focus on the evolving fan experience at major league stadiums. Read below! An excerpt, with great thanks to Lee Igel, Clinical Professor at the New York University Institute for Global Sport: “Everything in and around stadiums is now more social than economic. Social impacts and community benefits drive economic impacts and financial returns. That is a flip on the business model that shaped sports into the industry that it is today. Put another way, thirty years ago, it was ‘It's the economy, stupid.’ For the past decade or so, it's been ‘It's the society, stupid.’ Visitors to stadiums have always anticipated being in the venues as part of belonging to a community. It's now more significant than in the past, especially as we see increasing rates—an epidemic, really—of loneliness across the U.S. population. Stadium experiences are evolving—and going to have to continue evolving—around that sense of community. And stadium owners and operators are going to have to build it genuinely if they are serious about bringing in fans more often than just a one-off visit.” https://lnkd.in/geMy9uJ3

Using a mere few hundred thousand TV viewers as a gauge amidst a potential audience of nearly 400 million, of whom only 83 million demonstrate any real interest in soccer, reveals a glaring discrepancy that demands attention. This discrepancy underscores the evident disinterest of America in the lackluster, exclusive ventures embodied by MLS and USL. These leagues, characterized by their poor quality and dismissive approach to sport development, fail to resonate with a nation yearning for genuine soccer experiences. The failure of the Federation to actively track and address the state of the sport is concerning, as it falls squarely within their mandate. Where is the long-term vision? Where is the strategic planning for the next 5, 10, or 20 years? American soccer languishes in dire need of comprehensive reform, necessitating the removal of gatekeepers who hinder progress and innovation. While competition is undeniably beneficial for the sport, the monopolistic grip maintained by certain entities stifles growth and alienates fans. True progress can only be achieved through fostering an environment where diverse voices and ideas thrive, rather than succumbing to the confines of a stifling monopoly https://lnkd.in/ebGvHtrB

National Football League (NFL), WNBA (Women's National Basketball Association), National Women's Soccer League (NWSL), NASCAR, New York Yankees, Kraken, National Basketball Association (NBA) (maybe) = Amazon’s Current Sports Portfolio. I fully expect this list to grow over time as more rights become available in the coming years, but Amazon looks to be all in with live sports broadcasts. What’s the most interesting part?? As reported by Front Office Sports, in the recent Amazon upfront they detailed out the sports documentaries they are working on that will debut in ’24 and ’25. IMO, this is a critical complimentary piece to the game/race broadcasts that add another layer of stickiness of fans to the platform. Tentpole events surrounded by engaging shoulder programming is a solid strategy to build and entertain for both the in and off season. Those documentaries include: · A renewal of the Coach Prime series, featuring Colorado Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders (above), for a third season. Despite the team’s 4–8 record last year, Sanders remains one of the most-watched figures in all of college sports · A film chronicling the history of Madden NFL, the EA Sports video game that has been one of the most popular titles in the industry for more than three decades · Another film on the late Dale Earnhardt Sr., one of NASCAR’s most successful and charismatic figures ever. His son, fellow racing legend Dale Earnhardt Jr., recently joined Amazon as an analyst for the upcoming NASCAR coverage and will also work with TNT Sports · A five-part anthology series on Game 7s across sports, including the Cubs’ win in the 2016 World Series and the NHL Rangers’ triumph in the 1994 Stanley Cup Final · A look at Xaviar Babudar, the infamous “ChiefsAholic” superfan who was arrested in 2022 for a string of bank robberies · A feature-length documentary on the last stretch of the fabled career of tennis icon Roger Federer. The 20-time Grand Slam winner appeared onstage Tuesday to help herald the project, Federer: Twelve Final Days, that will debut June 20 #sportsbiz

This past weekend, I experienced an incredible lineup of women’s football/soccer playoff games—four matches filled with all the drama, skill, and passion that make sports such a powerful source of entertainment. From world-class talent to record-breaking attendance, precise team strategy, and excellent broadcasting, every game was as captivating as any top-tier men’s league game. If you’re a sports fan, it’s impossible not to appreciate the quality and excitement these athletes bring to the field, regardless of gender. An organization I admire, SheIS, uses the tagline "They Are Worth Watching," which couldn’t be more true. Women’s sports are as thrilling, competitive, and entertaining as any other, and the more we tune in, the clearer that becomes. So, here’s my challenge: mark your calendars for the upcoming National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) semi-final matches this weekend. On Saturday, November 16, at 12:00 p.m. ET (broadcasting on CBS/TSN), the Washington Spirit (seed #2) will host the NJ/NY Gotham FC (#3). Then on Sunday, November 17, at 3:00 p.m. ET (broadcasting on ABC/TSN), Orlando Pride (#1) will face Kansas City Current (#4). If you haven’t yet tuned in to women’s football, this is the perfect weekend to start. These games promise to be must-see moments in sports—don’t miss out! Whether you're a die-hard football fan or new to the sport, I encourage you to experience the talent, dedication, and pure joy that women’s soccer brings to the game. #TheyAreWorthWatching #WomenInSports #Success
