Our latest report, 'Securing Digital Equity in Australian Education', is now live! Edtech and AI offer opportunities to address persisting inequity in Australian classrooms, but the growing digital divide can further entrench disadvantage. Our report explores four dimensions of digital equity: access equity and digital inclusion, data equity, designing for equity, and effective use. To address all four dimensions and realise edtech’s potential to tackle ongoing disadvantage, we recommend a Digital Equity Learning Guarantee for all Australian students to: - Provide free or low-cost access to quality digital devices, connectivity, and resources to enhance digital skills and AI literacy. - Expand the effective use of digital teaching tools through professional learning and preservice teacher education. - Set equity and inclusion as core design expectations for edtech in Australian schools. - Ensure the highest level of privacy and safety protections for children and students. Thanks very much to Professor Leslie Loble AM and Dr Kelly Stephens for their terrific new research and policy report, Securing Digital Equity in Australian Education. https://lnkd.in/gPRa7jTB The report explores some critical questions, such as How does equity intersect with educational technology and AI? How is the rapidly increasing prevalence of AI-enabled edtech in Australian schools likely to impact educational equity? How could it help or make things worse and importantly, what can we do to tip the balance? At a time when Australia is grappling with how to improve the educational outcomes of all students, especially those from equity groups - such as First Nations students, students from low socioeconomic backgrounds and those living in regional, rural and remote areas - this report provides new thinking and clearly articulates the opportunities and risks for equity of edtech and AI.

Kicking off two days at Higher Education Partnership Network (HEPN) Manchester, returning to the city where I lived for two decades and where my experience of higher education digital transformation started. Looking forward to discussions of value creation for students, distance learning, digital inclusion and (of course!) a smattering of AI. #HigherEducation #HE #Digital #Strategy

Technology in schools, between unclear guidelines and social challenges The implementation of technology in schools requires a balanced approach and clear guidelines. At the same time, we see how digitalization can also help overcome the social challenges faced by schools by providing students with tools to counteract the difficulties and forms of deviance fueled by marginalized contexts. A significant alarm from UNESCO follows the results of a preliminary survey conducted in May 2023 among 450 schools and universities worldwide, which revealed a general lack of guidelines in the use of AI in education, raising concerns about the outcomes of a diffusion mainly driven by creators, developers, owners, and tech giants. In this confusing context, as we ponder over tablets, paper, pen, and AI, the objectives of Italy's National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) for the digitalization of schools outline intervention strategies involving environments, tools, and skills, towards innovative labs and schools, teacher training plans, and connected schools. The use of technology is interpreted socially as inclusion and skills enablement, reducing territorial disparities and combating school dropout rates. Inclusion as an element substantiating digital innovation emerges among the objectives in the update of the National Digital School Plan. "The PNSD - as stated in the Scientific and Technical Committee's Report - aims to systematize an inclusive use of digital teaching to reduce all forms of educational inequality and school dropout rates." In the breadth of actions planned to achieve "school digitalization" - which, in various national and European policy documents, includes the completion of ultra-wideband networks, setting up spaces, teacher training, and necessarily opening up to enabling technologies to enable students' thinking - the path seems clear, albeit filled with steps that cannot be bypassed. For so-called at-risk areas, those steps and that path represent a strategy to approach, accompany, and take care of students, their families, and their territories. Yet, this appears rhetorical if viewed within the national macro-context without placing those objectives into concrete school practices. Individual experiences, however, nurture the belief that schools can continue to represent environments of welcome, growth, and inclusion. 🌟 Education in 2024: A Year of Transformation! 🌟 Vicki Phillips emphasizes the crucial role of education, outlining five major issues shaping its future. From leveraging AI for personalized learning to fostering student engagement and diversity in leadership, the stakes are high. As a mother of two teenagers, I wholeheartedly agree with Vicki Phillips; .but from my perspective, while AI and personalized learning offer exciting prospects, the foundation of traditional education remains invaluable. It provides essential knowledge, critical thinking skills, and social interactions that shape well-rounded individuals. As we embrace innovations, let's ensure they complement rather than replace traditional education, maintaining a balance that prepares our children for a future filled with possibilities. How can we merge the best of both worlds to ensure our children receive a comprehensive education? How can we ensure education remains at the forefront of societal progress? 🚀 Let's discuss! #EducationMatters #FutureReady #EducationEvolution #FutureOfLearning #InnovativeEducation #EmpoweredStudents #DiverseLeadership #HolisticLearning #EducationForAll #AdaptiveTeaching #TechInEducation #LifelongLearners 🎓#TraditionalAndModernEducation 📚✨ https://lnkd.in/ducXn-ap

In the age of AI and rapid technological advancements, Pakistan's education system faces a critical need for curriculum reform. Our current reliance on traditional examinations and rote learning methods does not adequately prepare our youth for the future. It's time to integrate critical thinking, creativity, and digital literacy into our educational frameworks to ensure students can thrive in a dynamically evolving world. Let's advocate for an education system that is as forward-thinking as the technology it seeks to harness. #EducationReform #FutureReady #AIinEducation, #EducationReform #AIinEducation #DigitalLiteracy #FutureReady #InnovativeLearning #TechInClassrooms #21stCenturySkills #CurriculumDevelopment #EducationalTransformation #PakistanEducation

💡 Understanding Disparities in education worldwide before AI can play a part in leveling it ✍ ⏳ In today's rapidly evolving educational landscape, it's imperative to recognize the multifaceted challenges posed by disparities in #education. From unequal access to resources and opportunities to systemic inequities ingrained within educational systems, these disparities manifest in various forms and hinder the realization of #inclusive and equitable #learning environments for all students. In this post, we delve into the complexities of educational disparities, exploring the root causes, far-reaching implications, and urgent need for collective action. Join us as we shed light on the critical issues shaping the future of education worldwide and embark on a journey towards standardising education worldwide. 🐾 Access to Resources: Disparities in access to resources such as quality teachers, modern learning materials, #technology, and infrastructure can significantly impact educational outcomes. Students in underserved communities often have limited access to these resources compared to their peers in more affluent areas. 💰 Socioeconomic Factors: Socioeconomic status plays a significant role in educational #disparities, with students from low-income families facing greater challenges in accessing #quality education. Economic barriers can affect students' access to tutoring, extracurricular activities, and educational support services, leading to disparities in academic achievement. 👩🏫 Teacher Quality Disparities: Variations in teacher qualifications, experience levels, and professional development opportunities can contribute to disparities in the quality of instruction received by students, impacting their academic achievement and long-term success. 📶 Digital Equity Disparities: Disparities in access to technology devices, high-speed internet connectivity, and digital literacy skills can exacerbate inequalities in educational access and opportunities, particularly in the context of remote and online learning environments. 📑 Curricular Disparities: Differences in curricular standards, course offerings, and educational priorities across school districts or regions can lead to disparities in the breadth and depth of educational experiences available to students, affecting their readiness for post-secondary education and careers. #EducationEquity #InclusiveLearning #DisparitiesInEducation #AIinclusion #sorisetech #standardizingeducation #learning #aritificialintelligence
